Gents, first off I'd like to say hello as this is my first post.
I recently bought a 91 Camaro RS with the 305TBI and have been trying to do repairs and mods in the last month, so I have some limited knowledge as to particulars on this motor and such.
Down to the grit, I WANT a Performer RPM intake to put this motor with ability to move up to a 350 later and then change to a 383 maybe. I did some looking around with the limited interent and found that Summit had a couple intakes that would fit the stock motor but none were the RPM. I've already bought a Performer out of mistake and salesmen-lying-ship and wondered i'm better off leaving it alone with this #2104 or changing over to the #7101??
What do the Chevy Bowtie heads have to do with the fitment of the intake manifolds from Edelbrock? Would it really make it worthwhile modding the intake manifold of the newer makes for the two center bolts that don't line-up right?
Any suggestions for a carb to match? I've got a auto-trans and only plan on Solo2 autocross or the occasional drag strip, but want some more respectable performance in general.
Sorry for barrage of questions ad thanks in advance!!!
I wouldn't bother putting anything on the 305. The 383 you're talking about building is so much different, whatever you put on it would be a big mismatch on the 305.
For the 383, there are different types, so what you get defines what you need for an intake manifold. The Vortec type would preclude using the same intake on your 305.
A Holley 750 double pumper would probably support the 383 well.
True, but I know that the 383 is probably going to be just a dream, that's why I'm doing at least a little to this one. Besides I'm trying to change fuel, and going carb is a minimum right now, including non-comp distributor.
I already have the MSD 8362 and the Edelbrock 2104, I really wanted the Performer RPM mani but haven't seen it available for the 305/350 in my year.
The RPM isn't available in the '87-up style. And, frankly, unless you go with a lot more cam than stock, it wouldn't do you any good, anyway. You have to be making power above 5000 RPMs in order for it to do better than the Performer.
i have a performer TBI im trying to sell its in very good condition i used it on my 355. i dont know why it wouldnt fit yours i had a 92 camaro rs and i used it on...maybe im wrong but i think it should fit fine...if you find out and want one for a little cheaper let me know. like five7 said youd have to match the cam with the intake. the stock will work but defeats why you buy the intake you want something that produces in the same RPM your intake does to match that n the cam. for the carb the stock tbi should support those two mods there would be no reason to change that to much id imagine. if you were going to carb and insist on it id get a vacum secondary since its only a 305 even on a 350 you wouldnt need a big one id assume a 650 would work...anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong but the rpm with a medium cam , and a medium size vac sec carb would be fine or keep the carb you have now. a difference you would feel is to check your rear end gears and see what they are going to a 3:73 with a limited posi would have a nice feel....hope it helped and welcome to the boards
It's an older Weiand design intake with Summit's logo on it. A decent piece for sub-6000 RPM performance.
There is no RPM for the 87-up heads. You'd need to modify it to work. You will have hood clearance issues. And it's too much intake for your very mild lo-po 305, as was said above
Thanks for the replies everyone, the only reason I was thinking I would need the RPM is when I went to the 350 block. I was going to use either the Magnum or Xtreme series cams from Comp with an Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650CFM #1806 carb. This will be on the high reaching end of the 305 but just right for the 350 so that I don't have to buy another carb for the motor. The only time I might have to worry about buying a different carb is if I manage to find enough money for the 383 setup. I shouldn't need a carb adapter for squarebore to spreadbore right??
I had already bought the 2104 performer intake when I had asked that question I just wanted make sure that the one that I had bought would work fine with the setup that I have. I have already bought the MSD 8362 distributor too, though now I wonder if I could have gotten a simpler one without HEI instead without running a ballast resistor.
