Getting ready for CA Smog, Idle Question
Ok, as I mentioned in the title, I am getting ready for CA Smog this year, its in May. One thing has me wondering though as I never seen this before.
When warming up my car, it idles low, once it warms up, the idle goes up. This has been happening since I bought the car about 2 years ago. Its just off to me cuz on my tpi it was the opposite, also on any car other car I own and owned.
Now I'm confused as to this as I thought this is always backwards. Can anyone give me some insight on this please? I'm just confused on this.
If any of this helps, history on the car, new QJet carb, I had a shop install a new ECM, O2 sensors, (different shop) thermostat, water pump, intake. They adjusted the carb to idle at about 1200 rpm when warmed up and I was told all I needed was a new EGR to pass smog about a year ago, However after asking about the rpm range, I was told here to lower it so I did. I will be adjusting it soon. No vacuum leaks, no check engine lights. Car runs great but terrible gas milage.

Re: Getting ready for CA Smog, Idle Question
For what it`s worth a few years ago my `88 Iroc was getting terrible mileage compared to my `74 El Camino. I replaced the EGR just before I had to smog and my mileage shot up to 25 around town and it`s still there! Maybe it will work for your mileage issues.
