Buying and selling for everyone

I'd like to start a thread to help make future purchases go well. I'd like to share advice for buyers and sellers and/or have a standard for transactions for reference. Even with good intensions sometimes things are packed incorrectly or arrive falling out of the box. Sometimes people forget you exist after they received your payment. Then there's the international check scam.
Here's some things I do to try to avoid these hazards.
As a buyer:
1.) Always call or at least get a phone #. This gives you some idea of who you are dealing with.
2.) Check their previous posts. How many posts have they made? How long have they been around? Do they sell all the time or are they selling for a friend?
3.) Is the person knowledgeable about what they’re selling? Are they impatient with your questions? Are they forward about the defects you’ll notice when it arrives? Always get pics.
4.) Keep all your email correspondence to verify if needed when there’s a misunderstanding. Also comes in handy with someone you’ve bought from before when you need more parts. I contact people that I’ve had good transactions with and it has worked out good.
5.) Relay when the check has been sent and that the package has been received.
6.) I’ve had friends handle things locally at times and it’s worked out good for me.

As a seller:
1.) Provide asking price and pics so that you don’t have to repeatedly answer questions.
2.) Pack what you’re selling with the idea that it’s going to get thrown around because it will. Remember that sometimes the box you’re sending may be on the bottom of all the others being crushed and slammed around in the back of a truck. If you use peanuts or shredded paper please bag it so the parts don’t need to be taken apart and cleaned when it arrives. Don’t pack heavy parts with fragile parts. I repair things like this every day at my job so I’m familiar with these situations. I’ve also received parts from people that I’ve specifically asked not to do these things.
3.) Insure what you ship. It’s cheap and avoids future conflicts. Please ship with a company with a tracking # or a return receipt.
4.) Relay when the check has arrived and the package has been sent.
