one gallon of coolant in less then one hour!!!
Late today i was driving my car and seen that the temp was creeping around 220 (not normal from my normal 180) so i pulled over to see what the deal was... turned out i was low/very low on coolant. so i went and got some.. put it in there stayed at 180!
then it started creeping back up to the 220 after about one hour or so of driving... so i pulled over again and took a little closer look.
there was steam coming from under the hose which goes from the radiator to the water pump. the steam looked like it was right under where it hooks up to the radiator.
it was late, i had no real lights and i had to be home...
so what do you guys think it is.. is it as easy as a new hose or is my radiator messed up???
then it started creeping back up to the 220 after about one hour or so of driving... so i pulled over again and took a little closer look.

Its hard to say. In that area it could be sevral things.
1. bad hose.
2. leaking radiator.
3.leaking water pump. The water pump has a weep hole on the bottem that prevents water from reaching the bearing, kinda a safe guard but if its comming from the hole its shot. Coolant would leak down from the water pump into the area you describe via the hose.
4. bad radiator cap not venting properly.
5. Bad or disconnected vent hose to resivor.
6. leaking resivior.

Today i messed with it.
turns out its the drivers side tank that is leaking. so i took the radaitor out and im planning on taking it to the shop tomorrow.
hope to have it all back in around wed.

If it's the stock radiator dont bother! Reaparing it is gonna run you 3/4 of the price for a new one. Auto zone has our radiators from 80-129$ I personally use the 129.99$ 3 core radiators, they work very well and increase the coolant capacity by two quarts, 1/2 gallon. Well worth it in the long run.

yeah... our friend had a new tank put in his 87 chevy cost him around 90 bucks... so i thought that might be alright.
then i got looking around on the boards. and seen that auto zone has them for around 120...
i bought mine at advance auto for 116.99 its the 3 core aluminum with a life time warrenty.
already have it in and seems to be alright!
