I recntly gutted my ac system, all but the compressor. For some reason though, my fan stays on. Does anyone know why this is? My car never heats to 160 now and it runs like hell in the morning.

you messed it up... clogging the catalytic converter causing the engine to work harder there fore making it over heat.

There are 2 fan control systems. Primary (fan switch in the cylinder head) and the A/C (when the A/C system gets turned on, the fan kicks on). You opened the system, unplugging it - thus turning on the fan.

Before the A/C system was hacked out of the vehicle, there should ahve been a hard pipe along the right strut tower, down on the subframe rail. In that line is/was a pressure switch that remained closed when the A/C system high side pressure was low (compressor off). Unplugging that switch simply opened the circuit and reported to the ECM that the A/C was running, just like Stekman wrote. The ECM dutifully complied, and turned on the cooling fan - Just like it should.

If you find that connector still there, insert a jumper wire and see if the fan turns off. The connector should have had two dark green wires in it. Once you've solved this, you'll have to devise a more permanent fix to replace the jumper wire.
