Has anyone converted their ac from R12. How costly and whats the process?

proper way to do it is replace the accumulator and orfice tube. vacuum the system for 30 minutes and add 2 ounces of pag oil for replacement of the accumulator and orfice tube, charge the system. but you can do it easily as vacuum the system and and recharge. some say you have to flush it because the oils are incompatible, but i've been doing a/c for years and never had problems with a straight evac and recharge conversion, and you will never get all the old oil out of the system cause you can't flush the compressor and you can't flush the condensor. average cost of a retrofit here in town is $200. but you can get it for less if you buy the retrofit kit and install it yourself and take it in for a regular recharge $60 or so, this is assuming your system is empty of r12, you don't want to contaminate the r134a with r12.

i know the fittings up at advance auto or autozone is only a couple of bucks and bolt right onto the r12 fittings to make red and blue high and low pressure r134a setup, with the man above ive been working on the a/c systems for quite some time now still a little inexperienced every now and then but the accumulator and orifice tube needs to be changed thats a must to avoid the contaimination, its not to bad pricey if you do it yourself just make sure to wear some eye protection the freon will freeze an eye in no time if something bursts.
