Re: Sensor

To make things clear: the sensor by the thermostat is for the ECM, not for the dash gauge (that one is in the drive side head, between the first two spark plugs).

If you disconnect the connector from the sensor, you should be able to measure 5V DC across the two pins with the key on.

If you can't, measure it against a ground and also measure the corresponding pin on the ECM (whichever you might have - you failed to indicate that).

Hope this hellps.

Re: Sensor

The gauge works but the fan doesnt turn on and my car ends up over heating. i replaced the coolant temp sensor and found out that no power was going to it and found a wire that wasnt connected but couldnt figure out what it went to and im thinking that this is the problem. its a green wire on the passenger side near the exhaust.

Re: Sensor

If you have a TBI engine (you still haven't told us), the single green wire on the passenger side of the engine must be connected to the overheat switch in the head, otherwise you'll have no cooling at low speeds or stopped in traffic and your engine will overheat.

Re: Sensor

The overheat switch is what you described in your earlier post. It's in the passenger side head between the last two spark plugs. The green wire must be connected to it for the cooling fan to cool the engine.

If you are using A/C to cool the engine, that means that the rest of your wiring is working fine, you just need to make sure that the wire is connected to the switch.
