I just purchased a 89 RS Convertible with a L03, I have some work to do on it . I got a call from the owner this morning before putting it on the truck for shipping he was working on it and he sheared off a bolt holding the thermostat, he also broke the thermostat. He wants to pay for it. He wants me to take it to a mechanic for a price.

It is a runner that has been sitting for five years, I am focused on tires, brakes, hoses, belts and ect... I had no plans on putting on the road for a while as it would not be safe.

It would be replacement of the thermostat and removing the broken bolt and replacement of the bolt I assume. None of the parts seem expensive. What should I tell him?

Can the bolt be taken out with a pair of pliers or jamnuts? Are you comfortable using easy-out and maybe a heli-coil thread replacer on your own?

The car just arrived; I think you are right I may just let it go. I think I will get the thermostat from Napa and wait as that would look like the least of this cars problems.
