Fan Direction Air Flow

I own an '88 Trans Am with Daul Fans

I had it in the shop to replace a motor that went out. Causing me to overheat.

I got it back and I realized the fans blow to the engine bay. Making the fans pullers.

If memory serves correct, my fans blew into the Rad. causing them to be pushers...

Now the fans sit behind the Rad. in the stock location. Is the factory direction for the fans pushers? This is how I remember it to be before the work.. Is this correct?

Thanks!

your fans are pullers. all fans from the factory are pullers. if you turn them around and start driving you will overheat if they spin the other direction.

Overheat? Thats a head scratcher.. I remember my camaro's being pushers...

I say this due to the temp. not cooling the same as previous.

I have a 160 stat.. When I drive on the freeway the air flow into the Rad. drops the temp to the desired 160.

Theoretically, if I park the car, leave it idling and keep my fans on, it should drop to 160 if I keep them running... The temp stays @ 200...

Do I need to adjust the placement of the fans? loosen the bolts from fan to Rad.? Or is it the direction of airflow the fans produce.. pusher or puller?

They are pullers for sure. They are doing their job. They just don't do it that well. I just bought the ls1 cooling fans out of an 02 z28. They have a fan shroud and higher amperage motors and they will make all your problems go away. They are awesome and very easy to fit in. Your wires will even plug right in.

Speaking of the shroud. That's the plastic that surrounds the fan assembly connected to the rear of the radiator, correct? I don't believe I have one. Am I?

Re: Fan Direction Air Flow

yours do not have them. and your factory fans are pullers. if they were pushers and you started driving and the came on they would fight the incoming airflow and would overheat the car.

the air feeds into the car from the front towards the rear. the fans need to continue this stream.
