Zerex G-05 coolant
Anyone using Zerex G-05 coolant?
I'm looking to change to G-05 coolant when I flush my 89. It is supposed to be a hybrid coolant compatible with systems that use the green stuff. So, you get longer life (3 or so years) and no ill affects unlike Dexcool.
I've read quite a few C4 Corvette guys switching over to the G-05. It's also supposed to be sludge free unlike what is possible with the green stuff. But I think the newer green stuff has low silicate, so maybe that is a thing of the past.

Re: Zerex G-05 coolant
There was a problem with Dexcool in some cars. It was eating o-rings and some other rubber parts. The gold G-05 comes in many new high dollar cars. It's pricey...Ford also sells it over the counter, NAPA may have a version of it, and Zerex - like you stated. Just be sure and use a 50/50 mix with distilled water. Nothing wrong with the old green stuff though. I would use the green stuff, before using Dexcool.

i use prestone green stuff. i use one gallon antifreeze, i bottle purple ice, and the rest distilled water. even in heat down here intexas i have never had a cooling problem. i also drained and flushed the dexcool out of our 2002 avalanche and run the same mix. water is the best coolant. period.

I find the G-05 priced around the same as the green stuff, something like $12 or so for a concentrated gallon.
I know about the 50/50 mix with distilled water. Just making a post to see if anyone has converted to G-05. Main reason why I'm looking to change is for the longer life as it would be nice to not have to flush the coolant for another 3-5 years vs. every year. Even though I haven't really been doing that.
Though, I'll probably call Zerex to see how long their green stuff is for. Napa says 5 years. But all I've heard is the green stuff should be changed every year.

Looks like Zerex says their green coolant is rated for 5 years / 100k miles. I had always thought the green stuff was something you flushed every year. But I guess the newer stuff has low silicate compared to the old original stuff. So, maybe it lasts longer.
But I'd still say Zerex G-05 probably has longer life than the green stuff. I've read some say the G-05 has better protection than the green stuff.
