Accel Gen 6 error message "Echo Mismatch"

I have an '82 Camaro with an L98 and an Accel Gen 6. Car runs fine except for a funky idle. Attempting to tune or whatever with a laptop with the Accel software, and I get an "Echo Mismatch" message -- basically the laptop and the ECM aren't communicating. Accel doesn't service the Gen 6 stuff at all nor do they sell the cables or anything.

The laptop has Windows 95, which Accel support said is needed to run the calmap program. Accel's answer was basically, "Spend four figures for our latest system."

Anybody else run into this before? Any tips, tricks, workarounds other than shelling out for a whole new EFI system?

You're really yanking on my memory cells, but it has something to do with the COM port. You need to set it up correctly. If memory serves, something like 16800, N, 8, 1 or similar. It's been years since I owned a Gen 6, so I can't remember exactly. It might even have been 9600, N, 8, 1. In other words, you have to make it SLOW.

I will say, though, I love my Gen 7!

I messed around with those settings and got it to work! For about a minute, then my money 1995 laptop computer decided to shut down for whatever reason, and when it started back up and got the Calmap program running again, got the "Echo Mismatch" error again, and again, and again with every setting I tried.

Sorry to hear, dude. I figured it was something with the COM settings. I seem to remember something about the "UART" as well. I can't remember what it was though. It's just been too long. Something about either 8250 or something else? Don't know, but that's the only other thing I can think of. I believe the setting, though, you need to change is either in the system.ini and/or win.ini file somewhere (or needs to be added to it).
