IS 89 vette ecm same as 89 GTA? Adapter?
I have a chance to buy a computer/memcal from a 1989 corvette with a manual. I want to use the memcal from it in my stock 1989 GTA with a 350 that has been converted to a manual. Will this work? I am also ready to start burning my own chips most likely using an adapter and eeprom. I understand with this that the factory memcal is plugged in to the adapter and uses it's limp home mode and other things. Would it be desireable for me to have a factory manual shift memcal in the adapter vs the stock 5.7 auto GTA chip I have now? Hope this isn't to basic but you know the search is gone. Any link's to info I may need before i buy or any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am fairly certain the '89 Corvette used the same ECM (1227165). Maybe double check the number. The MEMCAL will work once the code has been changed. The calibration for the 'vette is quite a bit different in the fan control and SA tables. So I wouldn't recommend you run the 'vette calibration in the f-body.

So I can't use a vette chip? What is the diff between the auto and manual program? I have owned a factory 5l 5 speed and my used to be an auto 5.7l. It seems with the auto chip in it the timing is retarded too fast between gears. It works ok and I have no check engine light but it's not the same as the one that had a stick from the factory. If I was to burn my own chip what .bin would I want to start with? What changes would I make to tune it for a stick shift? I hope my question makes sense. This sucks because I may be able to search the answer if it worked. Didn't realize how much I used that function. lol

You can start with the Corvette bin, just flip the fan NO bit and rework the SA tables. The fan on the Corvette is wired in reverse from your GTA. So the fan will run when the engine is cold and shut off when the engine is hot.
The Corvette runs aluminum heads, your GTA has iron heads. The SA tables on the Corvette bin won't be correct for the GTA engine. You mentioned that you are getting into PROM burning, these are easy changes to start off with.
There is no factory bin for your engine/trans combo. So can either run a 305 TPI stick bin, or start with the Corvette bin and change some stuff. You are better off starting with a stick bin then an auto bin.
