Help picking out hardware for chip burning

I've read through all the FAQs on DIY PROM, but it's been an information overload.

I've also been to moates.net, and while it looks like great stuff, I'm really not sure what I need, and I'd prefer not to buy things that I don't since I'm on a college budget.

What are you guys using for tuning/burning/installing chips?

If it helps, I'm looking to work with a 730 and my laptop only has a USB connection since it's a newer model.

I was thinking something like this:
http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=54

These chips:

Do I need something like this:
http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=39

or this:
http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=44

or ?

Thanks for the help guys.

The chip adapters and flashable eproms from Moates are the way to go, IMO.
I use the Moates Burn1 with a usb cable from moates also. Works Great!
And the datalog cable also.

Ah, my fault.

I meant:

http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=32

or

http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=44

I'm assuming that I'd have to have either one soldered in, but I don't know if one is preferred over the other?

I'm already starting with an ECM that I bought from chevythunder.com ( it has been modifed for the proper injector size, no emissions, etc), but I'd like to see if I can get it tuned a little better from the "generic" tune it's coming with.

I haven't opened up the case yet, so maybe it already has a zif on it?

And

I bought the Autoprom and I love it. I took it out of the box and had it up and running in about 10 minutes. I also purchased the g1 adapter kit. It came with a zif and some chips, also my autoprom came with a few extra chips and a DIP socket. You also get a licsensed version of tunerpro rt with the autoprom as well. I figured why by a burn 1 and an ostrich when I can get it all in one package plus ALDL to boot.

there is no soldering involved putting this in a 730

a ZIF socket isn't completely necessary, but i do highly recommend you get one, they make installing & pulling the chip a breeze with almost no chance of damaging it.

instead of the G1, you may want to order the GP1, its the same as the G1 but it comes with 2 of the chips you want & a ZIF for the same price as if you buy them separately.

with those chips, just stack the bin in TunerPro instead of off setting it.

with the AutoProm & GP1 your all set

i have had my AutoProm for about 2 years & i love it.
