Mental Reactor Melt Down

I have printed and read, re-read and re-read Traxion's Part 1 guide. I have a few basic q's that I need some affirmation before dollar 1 is spent....please?

I'm familiar with aspects of tuning, ( Carbs and Fords,) but the hardware portion ingetting started tuning this TPI has momentarily kicked me in the shorts. I am not an electrical engineer by any means, I am in amazement as to how you guys have even gotten this far, ( I know....slurp, slurp.) WOW, with my 02 Mustang, plug in datalink or insert/remove chip from burner and done. Like I said, I'm trying to come up to speed on this hardware as fast as possible, but I would appreciate some help. Anyone near Indianapolis, IN that would like a steak dinner for some local advice? ( lol )

Looks like his guide was constructed or last modified about a year ago, and by my research on some of the recommended part supplier sites, there have been hardware updates available not yet mentioned in his treatise. I am not complaining, tech simply outpaces us sometimes.

Below is copied from his article ( awesome and thank you by the way,) where the bold faced type is his programming steps/order and my question or statement is below.

Pull the chip from the ECM.
89 TPI, Remove Memcal, then remove Chip from Memcal ( desolder?)

Read the chip using the programmer.
I would like to use Moates AutoProm
"Does everything in one package, one USB-based device! USB-powered, so no power supply needed.
Chip burning/reading, datalogging, and realtime emulation.
Performs ALDL communications at 160/8192 baud, programs AT29C256, 27SF512, and AM29F040 chips.
Has 3-channel 0-5v 10-bit A/D provision fpr wideband and other datalogging.
Includes AutoProm device, 28-pin 18-inch emulation cable, OBD1-style ALDL cable CABL1, 6-ft USB cable, 1x 27SF512 chip, 1x 29F040 chip, and Mark Mansur's "TunerPro RT" Software license.
PLEASE READ through product documentation to understand some of the features of this all-in-one, datalogging, realtime emulation tuning, and chip burning hardware. Keep in mind you'll still need a chip adapter and probably a ZIF, so select them from the Adapters and Sockets categories if you don't have them already. Fully compatible with TunerPro RT and TunerCat. "

Save the BIN.
Performed by the Autoprom (?)

Open the 'other' software.
This would be the editor step such as Tuner Pro RT or Tuner Cat, etc.

Load the BIN along with the calibration file.
I would have to specify or request the calibration file / mask( $6E ) from my editor provider, ( Tuner Pro RT or Tuner Cat, etc,)

Make the necessary changes and save the new BIN.
This step performed within Tuner Pro RT or Tuner Cat, etc.
Load the programmer's software and load the new BIN.
This step handled by Autoprom.
Put a blank chip on the burner and program it.
Purchase blank chip into burner ( Autoprom,) and burn/program it. Then use a Moates adapter to install newly programmed EPROM into the Memcal and back into the PCM.
Are my above assumptions correct?

Since I am using EPROM's and not EEPROM's, I would need to purchase multiple EPROM's to burn multiple chips as they are not erasable?

Am I missing any parts or pieces ( not including a Laptop, WBO2, basic tuning knowledge,) for my quest to program my EPROM/PCM?

I hope not to insult any other programer supplier, Moates seems like a real nice compact, do-it-all piece, KISS for me anyway. Thank you for any help.

Rob

Re: Mental Reactor Melt Down

The bin is the ecm program.
TP is the programmers software referenced above & saves, opens, edits the bin.
The AP reads or writes(burns) the bin to the prom.
The AP can also replace the prom when used to emulate.
The xdf that comes with TP is fine editing 6E.
Just get the AP, an adapter, and a few extra 27sf512 chips which are EEPROMS. The MEMCAL has an EPROM which can be erased with a UV eraser. The Prom Intro by Traxion in the stickies goes into that.
Since your buying an adapter, you don't need to desolder the memcal.
And might as well get the HDR1 while your at it. You'll want it eventually.

Re: Mental Reactor Melt Down

Z69, thanks for the reply.

" Nice Quad Post, "

I tried to post this thread last night, however, when I submitted it, it did not show up on the board. I thought I did something incorrectly, so I posted it a second time, again, nothing. I left it alone until this morning and tried it again, nothing. Is there a waiting period before a new thread will post? I've posted other threads/replys in other forums here and there was no delay. Oh well, I've posted in my other posts asking the Mod's delete them. I apologize to the Mod's for their extra work.

Thanks.

Re: Mental Reactor Melt Down

No delay normally. Sometimes the browser cache will fool you.
I always hit reload page if what I posted isn't shown.
I've had the board do similar to me on occassion.
I suspect it's an html/browser problem.

Also, TP controls the AP and tells it to read/write etc.
