best/cheapest way to tune?
hi, im kinda new to the forum, i have a 95 350tbi truck with a blower and iv been wanting to tune it myself for a very long time now, i finally have enough money to get an ostrich 2.0 and then the cable to datalog, is this going to be the best way to tune? is there any beter ways to do it, is there a cheaper way to do it? this is going to cost me 250$ and then i still need to get a wide band 02. i read somewhere how to just take a wide band 02 sensor and wire it to the egr pin on your ecm and you can rerad it through the ecm for dataloging, anyone have any more info on that?
im new to this so expect tons of questions when i do get the stuf and start tunning

Which ECM/PCM is the truck using? Auto or stick? This makes a difference in what equipment is required.

Re: best/cheapest way to tune?
Need to find out which PCM it is. And while there get the BCC from of the MEMCAL. Won't be the '7747 as it won't run an 'E' transmission.

Re: best/cheapest way to tune?
The Service Number will be on a paper label on the top face of the PCM. Then remove the two screws for the cover plate and get the BCC from the MEMCAL. Between the two you will know which PCM it is along with what code Mask is being run. Trust me, you need this info first.
The BCC will be a 4-letter code such as: BBNT, AWTY, AXXW, etc.

Re: best/cheapest way to tune?
ok, i have the money and am seriously considering buying the stuff, i was going to just order it up, but i figured i should make one last post first. i know what ecm is mine becasue i know tbimax (not sure if thats his name on this forum or not) has the same year truck and ecm as me, and he recommended to me the ostrich 2.0, and iv already loaded in the proper mask into my tunerproRT. so i dont think its necessary to look up my ecm, i know exactly what i need to get. so my final question is, can an idiot like me really tune my own truck? is it really that hard to get it in the ball park? and can i get it close enough without getting a wide band o2 sensor? i don't plan on running the truck ***** out without tuning from a wide band, but i want to get close enough with just the narrow band to be able to drive the truck normally again, and possibly be able to floor it, which i cant do right now...

Re: best/cheapest way to tune?
well, as usual, once i get enough money to tune, something else goes wrong. no more then 10 minutes after i post i jump in my truck to head to walmart and i give it a little gas, it down shifts, makes maybe 2 pounds of boost, if that. and massive backfire/pop. so i back off, run it up to about 3k rpm in 1st gear to see if it did it at a certain rpm with out any boost, only seemed to do it under boost reguardless of rpm. then i take off casually from a red light, and the rpms climb to about 2k (id say at about 0 vacuum)and then it does a nasty backfire again, and this isnt just a small backfire, this will make you jump. it has power, it runs fine in neutral with no load. idk what to think of it, i mean its easy to just say its the bad tune, but iv ran it with the bad tune for a long time now and no problems. from the looks of it i definitely didn't melt a piston or anything serious like that. im thinking it could be either something to do with spark, or maybe i need to adjust my valve lash since it has 200k miles on it. also im going to check my fuel pressure tomorrow and see if the boost referenced regulator it failing to give me more fuel under boost. and ill run a compression check and change the plugs... any suggestions on what it could be?
