Thank You - From a lurker

This is probably going to sound very strange coming from a first time poster, but I wanted to say thank you to all of you who have contributed to the DIY PROM tuning threads. I have been reading through them for the past month or so, trying to understand what was needed before posting lots of questions.

I have an '89 Chevy Caprice (not a Camaro, please don't throw tomatoes) and the 305 that was in it blew up. I swapped out for a 350, and it ran, but like crap. After beating my head against the wall by searching for a mechanical problem (and swapping out almost all the sensors on the car) I started looking around on some caprice boards, but most of the people on there are more concerned with putting 22" spinner rims and hydraulics on their cars. So I came over here, read the 305 to 350 swap thread and learned about the E-PROM differences. I had read up on everyhing and was planning on investing in the burning equipment and emulators, even though I'm in graduate school and don't have much money, as it seemed like the logical way to approach getting the car running right. I went to a junkyard to pull out an extra ECM and E-PROM from another Caprice in the case I screwed this up, but came across an old '89 cop car. Yanked the ECM, and as it turns out, the ANLU chip in it still works. Swapped out the ECM with my car, and just like everyone said, the ANLU chip is a pretty good tuning. The engine quieted right down, the power sag went away and the car runs a lot better in general. I'll probably have to burn myself a custom chip eventually (so I will be around), but that's going to wait until I graduate and can afford it.

So thanks again to everyone here for all the great information!
