Can't keep ignition switch in aux. position

When I just want to listen to the radio or something, I can turn the key backwards to the auxillary position, but it won't stay there. It just goes back to the off position. Any ideas?

I've seen a lot of old GM steering columns do that.

If you have tilt wheel, try tilting it all the way up, and then see if the key will stay in Accessory.

If that doesn't work, you can live with it, or rebuild the steering column.

When you say "rebuild the steering column", do you mean going through and tightening things things up and replacing the lock cylinder or something more specific?
