A way to test a PROM?
is there a way to test a PROM with it out of the computer??
trickster, thanks for all the help....i have it narrowed down to 2 things: either the PROM or ECM, i put a new ECM in it not to long ago and i am not really sure if i should buy a new PROM from the Chevrolet Dealership or buy a computer and PROM off the board here. what do yall suggest???

If you have a PROM reader/burner, you can download the BIN and open it on your computer.
Or, if it's a bin that you have a copy of already, you can do a PROM verify with the burning software.
If you don't have all that crap, I can show you a nice toggle circuit that will allow you to check the PROM 1 bit at a time.

yeah that would be great if you could go ahead and show me how to do that. I am kind of draggin *** about going to the dealership to buy a new PROM for $93.65. i just want to be able to verify it. i would greatly appreciate it.
