Car: 88 Camaro Coupe - 99 Corvette
Engine: 305TPI - LS1
Transmission: A4 - A4
Axle/Gears: 3:73 - 3:15
code 34, 36
hey guys
i finished up my TBI to TPI swap and only have 2 codes left that keep reaccuring after deleting. when scanning it with my scanner i get a code 34, MAF sensor too low, and code 36, transmission shift fault. i searched this forum and found the code 34 may be due to my chrome oil breather cap but had no luck finding info on this code 36.
anybody have a suggestion? i just had a remanufactured trans installed and i got that code before and after so i eliminated that thought

a '36' on a TPI system indicates a failed MAF burnoff cycle. Search the archives and you might find lots of information on this. When it occurs along with a '34' the problem may be MAF wiring or relays.

ok i read through some stuff on here about this, i need to check the relays as a starting point, which relays are they? the ones on the firewall near the ESC or the 2 over by the battery??
if it matters the harness in my car is out of an 88 GTA 350TPI, not an 88 camaro

ok heres what ive come up with today, i swapped the MAF Power Sensor Relay and the MAF Sensor Burnoff Relay, since there the same and no change and swapped them back. i probed all the wires with one of those light up power testers.
on the
MAF SENSOR POWER RELAY i got
tan/white - Power
red - Power
black/white - No Power
Blue - No Power
Orange - Power
on the
MAF SENSOR BURNOFF RELAY i got
orange - Power
orange - Power
blue - No Power
black - No Power
on the harness clip goin into the MAF Sensor i got
red - Power
blue - No Power
green - Cut Power
black - ground
black/white - ground
my car may run a little rich because i have 350 injectors on a 305 but would that set the 34, 36 codes off? how about the lines routed to the charcol canister?

i was just checkin over my grounds and the two wires on the passenger side rear head werent grounded! i grounded it and got an O2 reading finally and im resetting the computer as we speak, i hope this will clear up the 34,36 codes

reset the computer and only 36 came back....

Running rich or lean will not create a '34' or '36' error. Since you're apparently down to a '36', your MAF is working properly and you need to check the power feed to it while the ECM is trying to initiate a burn off cycle. You'll need a meter, not a test light. Monitor voltage at the dark green wire at the MAF (with everything connected) after the engine is turned off. You should be getting someting near 5V once the cycle has started. You should get 12V on the dark blue wire and red wire as well.
