Sequential turn signals-done and installed-with video!
Here's my videos of my homemade, electronic circuit board, STS (sequential turn signal) system.
When I get a 2nd person to help, I'll get video of the brake lights. They sequentially flash the 6 lights like hazards, but stop flashing once all 6 are lit.
And, the STS.take precedence over the brakes. So if you are stopped, with the turn signal on, the STS still functions, rather than them staying lit with the brake lights.

The webpage where the movies are hosted, is down currently and working only intermittently.
We're trying to find a place to upload the videos. Wanted to attach them here but it's not allowed, unfortunatelly.
youtube?

"Nothing screams more of poor craftsmanship than wrinkles in your duct tape!"
I stopped using Microcrap a lot time ago, and use Firefox and Thunderbird now, so I guess I can't see the viewing problem.
They are just a hair under 3 megs each, so I'm gonna shorten them, and see about making the smaller too. But, I don't wanna lose the resolution, and make it look faked.
I managed to make them small enough to upload, by reshooting them. Geez...Learn something new every day! I didn't even realize my camera did 2 different resolutions! A 15 sec max version, and a 60 sec max version. Obviously, the longer version is less resolution, but still good for this.
If anybody knows how to convert the MOV files to a different format, please let me know.
As far as doing this to a Camaro....
The next project is to cut the ambers off one set, cut a set of red lenses off another set of taillights, then plastic weld the new ones in place, to create an all red set of tail lights for a Camaro.
Yes, you can paint over the amber with transparent red, but you end up with an amber light, coated with red, so the color output is different when they are lit.
So...going to market these? I like them, and even my wife likes them.
More than likely. But for now, we're doing a durability study, and cost effective "mass" builing investigating. Already have the idea for a fail-safe, in case anything goes wrong, it can be easily reversed to stock. We'll easily beat the cost of the commercial one available now. This isn't a business, just fun.
3 days alive, and going strong so far. But, of course, 3 days is nothing.
Thank you. Most of the hat goes off to Frankie though. He was more responsible for getting it all together and working. AFAIK, Bradley left long ago. (Still around Bradley?)

Expected date is early 2007, for the durability test, to weed out any potential problems, and possibly, more in car tests, after the initial final product is made.
I recall the old T-bird sequential turn signals that ran slower than these. They were so distinctive. Is there any way to alter the sequential speed.
I guess I'm just an old fart!

They are the origins of this idea.
These MIGHT be able to be made slower, but would require redesigning of components. We decided on a faster speed, to draw attention, to notify tailgaters, we're changing lanes/turning.
I might try slowing the next sequence though, so the 3rd light stays on for a second, before the sequence restarts. Dunno.
That's part of the prototyping for changes/adjustments.
To clear up any confusion, the STS can only control the delay of the four bulbs, it cannot control the speed of the flasher for the turn signals. In order the increase the delay between different lightbulbs, the turn signal flasher would need to be replaced/modified.
That's something to look into. I have a spare flasher at home, I'll be playing.

Hmmmm...I wonder...Could the red tails be used as tail/brake/turn signals, and the amber just disconnected completely then? I don't see why this couldn't be used on 2 light systems vs, 3 light systems, with no modifications made to it.
By the same token, this could be implemented on a stock TA tail light system, without converting the outer most light, into a dual filament bulb. Then, if you ever decided to change the outer most bulb to a dual filiment bulb, the same STS system could be used.
I got a video (on my youtube) showing the STS overrides the brakes, since they use the same filament in the bulbs. So, at a red light, waiting to turn, the STS lights still work, rather than the lights just lighting up as brakes.
think you can set up a kit to replace the taillight in the spoiler of the camaros so its sequentials leds because we dont have those awesome taillights the T/As have. goodluck with the variable speed control. And because the spoiler brake light cud have like 4 or six leds its possible to use that as a sequential turn signal isnt it?
That would take some work. The TA only has 2 bulbs. It wouold require fabbing a whole new "socket" board. I think I'm gonna look into the pulsing 3rd brake light.
On Camaros, it would be easier, since there are ?5? bulbs, IIRC, the # of bulbs. Maybe make the center bulb work for both left and right, but the outer 2 work as left and right seperate. Make sense?
If the bulbs are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...Then for a left turn...3, 2, 1....For a right turn...3, 4, 5. Might get overcrowded though, if the tails and the 3rd brake like were STS.
Need to find 2 sets of Camaro tail lights, for the next project, to test. Preferrably the 91/92 style for both sets.

I'll post when they become "commercially" available. Probably early next year.
I'm testing the prototype right now. Once it gets some run time without failure, 1 week so far, We'll get a fe "production" versions made. After I test that one, we'll release them.
Are they available yet? Seen lots of guys do this on bikes, like it!
.
EDIT: Actually I came here for some help on how to make some of my own, how much do you think your kits will run?
There are kits already out there, for around $70. These will be cheaper, no doubt about that. We aren't a business, just a guy who wanted them, and an electrical guru friend who said, "I can do that!", so he did. Partly just because he wanted to see that he could pull it off.
He was out of the country over xmas, but I'll ask him soon. I know he hasn't had any made up yet. Mine was a hand built, parts box made. The final version will be printed circuit boards, with the components.
I have yet to see another vehicle around here with them. The last one I saw was an original late 60's Thunderbird, but that was like 10 years ago!
Since it's a hobby and not a business could you please share the schematic with me? I've designed a few versions over the years using different chips (4017, 555 timers, LM3914, etc.) and I never came out with a reliable design that worked consistently. I'd love a schematic, or even a quick description would help alot. I lost interest and never finished mine since the car has been off of the road for a year and a half.
I have no idea what the schematic or components are, other than capacitors or something like that...no mechanical components, like a simple flasher relay type piece.
I do know the production is progressing, but the final release date is still unknown at this time. I'll be sure to post when they are ready.
Well, the first 2 prototypes are in for testing...but there was a size error, by the factory, so the connector doesn't fit right.
We are still going to use the boards for prototype (only the final size should change) testing, but make sure the final version is the correct size, so the wiring connector actually fits! Need some warm weather to do it now.
I've been wanting to do the exact same thing as described in this thread, as I've always loved the sequential taillights of the '67-'68 Cougars. I do have a question though - could your design be modified to accommodate a 3rd taillight on each side? I really want to make use of the 3rd, outside "panel" in my GTA taillights..
Once you get to the point where you're actually selling these, please send me a PM.

Thanks!
No change needed, other than the tail lights.
If you look at my avatar, you'll notice I have 3 lights per side, on my GTA. You just hafta change the 3rd light, to a double fliament bulb, like the inner two.

Wel, everyone...It looks like I'm going to be banned, just because I have TGO Co-Founder in my sig, which is 110% true, yet Mods want it removed and yet I make no claim to current affliation with TGO, in any way, shape, or form.
I don't know what they are trying to hide here. Your guess is as good as mine.
If they do ban me, I guess I can only get questions on the STS, by direct email.
WTF??!?? I swear, it's been that kind of day, all freakin' day... Please do make arrangements so that people know how to get in touch w/ you - I wasn't kidding when I said that I'm very interested in the taillights.
Mods - isn't there some kind of accommodation that can be made? Seems that this kind of effort & energy would be much better spent by improving the site, & dealing with the occasional troublemakers that show up. (And just myself personally, I haven't seen anything to indicate that Stephen has been a troublemaker, but I guess it's possible that I missed something...)
