Wipers broke. Now what did I @#$%-UP!

All I wanted to do was to replace the washer pump. Much easier to pull the cover off and pry the clip off while on the bench.
After I put the cover back on, the pump works, but the wipers will only move an inch or so. Made sure the ground strap was making contact, but no go.

I've searched the forums for similar problems, but they were all caused by using a different column, or replacing a part that was incorrect. I thought I was careful with the cover replacement, but what happened?

I have an '85 Berlinetta, w/delay wipers.

Anyone have a similar problem?

Re: Wipers broke. Now what did I @#$%-UP!

Update. I must have replaced the cover 20 times trying to figure it out. During that time, as I tried the wipers, I heard a loud SNAP. Uh-oh. The lever that is mounted inside the cover (mine is green) broke in half and broke the mounting post. How that happened .....?
Well, OK. Let's keep trying the cover. Holding the cover in place without any screws, I tried the wipers. They did the same little jiggle, until pushed the cover to the left (looking at the firewall). then they took off like a raped ape. There is a solenoid in the gearbox that prevents the main transmission shaft from moving. I'm guessing that the cover contacts were not making conneection with the solenoid terminals, making the wipers go into 'park' mode. A little cleaning, and a slight tweek of the terminals kept them going.
Now to fix the stuff I broke.
The wipers will only stay in high. I don't know for sure, but I think the broken lever is a position sensor (of sorts) to tell the electronics where the wipers are. Because this is a 'starwars' car, I'm not hoping to find a replacement cover anytime soon, so I'm going to try to repair the busted stuff.
If anyone is interested in this, let me know. I'll try to post a few pics.

I hate to say it - but your kinda' screwed. I've attached a picture from the 84 Shop manual showing the position that the cam lever must be in when the wiper cover is placed back onto the motor. The instructions actually have a specific warning about this cam:

" Always install cover assembly onto wiper with Cam in position shown in figure 2-46 so as not to damage Cam on drive pawl."

Removing the cover is always a bad idea unless absolutly required. Sorry I could tell you about that before you had the problems.
