87 IROC Z " AC Question"

I took my IROC out on a 200 mile round trip recently Saturday to visit friends. The AC was working good. After awhile it stopped working. I could feel faint cold air coming in through the vents however it wasn't blowing hard like it should when set to max. I then let the car sit for a good 7 to 8 hrs before I headed back home. As I started driving, the AC was working again. Blowing cold air like it should. What do you think was the problem?

Re: 87 IROC Z " AC Question"

I'm guessing your low pressure cycle switch could be bad. That would mean not shutting the compressor off when it gets too cold, thus icing up the evaporator. Airflow is reduced until it de-ices.

If it happens again on the highway, try switching to VENT for about 30 seconds. Then switch back to air conditioning and see if it blows at the expected speed. Switching to VENT would allow the evap to de-ice itself.

Interesting. I will try that. However if it does happen again.. where is this low pressure cycle switch located?
