The CTS won't keep the engine from starting. You can unplug it temporarily, the engine can run without it.
If they had a "dim light" on the injectors, somebody needs to look at the power supply to the injectors. They should see full voltage on the pink/black wires with the key on. The wires come from the under-dash fusebox, fuses INJ1 and INJ2.
If the injectors have full voltage on the positive side, then the problem might be the grounding wires from the ECM (black/pink and black/green) or a ground for the ECM itself.
Let us know what you find.
