coolant temp sensor

I have an 87 z28 305 4bbl. What is the sensor on the driver side thats in the block under the manifolds? Is that one of the temp sensors? And if it's bad is that what would throw the "low temp indicated" code and make the car idle higher? I know the CTS will make the car run rich if it thinks the engine is cold. The people at napa keep trying to give me an o2 sensor, they seem to be all confused about what the code means and the sensor that may be bad.

Re: coolant temp sensor

My coolant temp switch is on the passenger side (305TBI) and the O2 sensor is on the drivers side....I know different engine but>> When I wasn't certain at first, I just ganked it out and brought it in..... FYI >>> If it is your coolant sensor don't have your head directly under it when you pull out like I did

Re: coolant temp sensor

On the driverside of the head between cyl 1 and 3. 1 green wire going to it.

If that is the one you are reffering to it is a temp sensor and it is for the gauge only.
