MSD Digital 6+ makes my idle flop
Weird, with the box disconnected, engine idles as set @ 900. Connect the MSD box and it barely idles, bouncing around 500-650 but not ever close to 900. I'm a bit confused where to start figuring this one out.

ttt. I'd really like to find some insight here, I've never experienced this. I'm not sure what to even begin to troubleshoot.

Re: MSD Digital 6+ makes my idle flop
Anyone have an idea here? I had never seen this post before but I added just this.. a MSD digital 6+ to this very car and it not only affects idle, it affects all the fueling and how the engine runs. Throttle response is poor idle quality is steady but low. The tach actually reads good now whereas its bouncy and too high with the way it's wired normally (without MSD box)
This thing is running Code $59
I want to add this box to imprve idle quiality and especially emissions. This thing stinks up the shop the way it idles now and in cold weather (as in HERE) the engine floods very easily. If I take out some cold cranking fueling it will not start perio. Something is very finnicky there and I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. Either way 3-4% CO is simply unacceptable.
The way it's wired up is simply just using the split connector from MSD, take off the 2 factory cons. Stick them in the harness and then stick the other end of the harness in the coil power/ground conn. @ the coil. MSD box now supplies tach signal as well as coil voltage.
HELP!!!
Hey AC, did you have a copy of the last bin you ever did for the car? Somehow the original bin I had saved is corrupt now.

try using a larger ground, I havent used an msd box on anything that was computer controlled but it sounds like its a ground or in the wire circuit keeping the cpu from controlling the timing. ( assuming the msd box is known good )

Old thread I know, but did anyone call MSD and talk to their tech people?

Re: MSD Digital 6+ makes my idle flop
It's not a ground issue I am always very meticulous about my wiring. Only weatherpack connectors soldered and shrinked connections and always a good ground. It's not the box. I'm thinking that for some reason the MSD rpm signal is not playing nice with the code 59. I will rewire it so the signal comes off the coil again see what that does.
The box is brand spanking new, verified to work as it was a repalcement for one that was bad (from another car) but MSD took so long that we got a new box in the mean time.
Too bad AC doesn't visit here anymore. He also hasn't replied to my email, mayba different address now? He wired up this entire thing, I'd hate to tear it all out to see what's up. I did redo a bunch of wiring because it had crimp connectors and such.
The main problem is it runs too rich at idle is very hard to start and tends to flood very easily. It won't meet emissions. They are not stringent but it should be able to get .5%CO. I may have to add some large cat cons to get there but with the way it idles no there's no way the cats will live very happily.
This is an old thread but no it's current. I'm trying to get this thing on the road here so we can molest a gallardo that's driving around here LOL
