Car won't start. V.A.T.S.? Fuel pump? Relay?
I have a 91 camaro rs 305 tbi that recently has been problem after problem. One day i went to start it and it simply not turn over at all, when i turned the key nothing would happen. After changing the starter, ECM and testing every wire i could get to, I found the starter enable relay was not working properly. I found that if you manually close the circuit the car will start, but won't stay running. It will turn over, run, but its almost like it isn't getting fuel, it dies unless you constantly give it gas. I replaced the starter enable relay thinking it was simply a bad relay, but the new one won't close the circuit either. After reading a ton of articles online, I thought maybe it had something to do with the V.A.T.S. system? So i had a local locksmith, who claimed he could bypass the system, try to bypass it however the problem still persists. I don't know for sure what he did but my guess is he only bypassed the lock and cylinder and did nothing about the actual V.A.T.S. module sending signals to the ECM? Another possibility that many articles claim it could be is the fuel pump or fuel pump relay? I am pretty sure the pump works because when i turn the key to ON and put my head to the hump i can hear the pump prime. I don't know if that eliminates it as a factor altogether or if the relay could be bad? I am also going to change the fuel filter when i get an opportunity. My best guess is it has something to do with the V.A.T.S system i just don't know much about it and would appreciate anybody's 2 cents.
Thanks for the help

If your module is faulty you can buy a $40 unit that will supply the correct fuel enable signal to the ECM
and then also completely remove the VATS operated starter relay by jumpering the terminals in the plug

Check for fuel pressure at the test point on the fuel rail
Put 12V to terminal G of the ALDL connector and pump will run full time ( checks pump and wiring is OK ; not that it is being turned on correctly )

most likely used only and then you have to get the keys matched to the used module because it can not be reprogrammed
Most would buy the unit I noted above
http://www.bakerelectronix.com/products_vats/
Once the new fuel unit has been wired in to the computer
you can completely remove the VATS module ,any " VATS bypass device" / resistors you may have fitted
and the starter enable relay by soldering the 2 thick wires in relay plug together
After you have completely disabled the security system
you may want to install one of your own like putting a hidden switch on the fuel pump
