[MD] Nice TH700R4
I have a very nice TH700-R4 that I pulled from my Formula this weekend because I'm starting the T-56 swap. Here's the run-down:
Transmission originally from a 1987 305 TPI Trans Am. It was rebuilt just prior to my family's purchase of the car. It has about 25,000 miles on it since the rebuild.
The original owner was a doctor, and very obsessive compulsive about his vehicle. Among other things, he had the transmission serviced at the dealership a total of 9 times between 30,000 and 105,000 miles, at which time it was rebuilt, along with a new torque converter and shift kit (I don't know the brand of either, I apoligize).
During the 30,000 miles since the rebuild that my mother and I have owned the car (I bought it from her), it has been run with a Transmission cooler installed out of a 460 Ford Ambulance. It was also run with a 160 degree thermostat and 172 degree electric fan thermostat. It simply hasn't seen heat. When I wrecked the T/A, I pulled this transmission out and put it in my '87 Formula. At this time, I changed the filter, and completely drained the fluid from the torque converter and transmission. The transmission was then filled with Valvoline MaxLife Dexron III Mercron Transmission fluid (it was 11 quarts IIRC). The cooler was moved along with the transmission, along with the 160 degree stat and fan switch. This was all done just over 1500 miles ago. I did it right because I planned to keep it, but alas, I found my T56.
I've driven a lot of TH700-R4s, including the one in my dad's 02 Camaro SS Texas Highway Patrol pursuit unit, and i've never felt one as strong as this one. It shifts firm and precise, no slop, no slip, no slide. It's as positive as they come, yet not jerky or too sharp at all. The TV cable has always been properly adjusted.
You'll be satisfied with this transmission. I'm asking $400 for it. I can do local pickup, or I can deliver within 250 miles or so for the cost of gas at 15mpg in my Suburban. The trans is located in Annapolis, MD. It comes with the TV cable and dipstick as shown. I will also throw in the Trans cooler and prebent and cut transmission lines that should fit it into a 3rd gen firebird, or possibly a camaro. I can also throw in the crossmember if someone needs it.
