Help a young man out.....

Help a young man out.....
Hey all, I'm looking to rebuild an old 4-bolt 350 engine here soon and swap it for my 305 tbi.
Before anyone complains about the search engine or anything, I have done my research, but Im getting monetary help from my parents on the build and I need them to see that I know whats up...and one can never know too much.
So with that being said, the build Im thinking about is similar to Atilla's 350 TPI build, but I'm considering Stealth Ram or other types of FI. Im also considering carbed over FI to avoid computer tuning hassels. Any thoughts on cam choice or forced induction? Also, Im going for true duals, but have from others that a straight pipe is better. The engine will go in a daily driver, not worried about emisions or money (yet). Just want to turn heads.
Any stories/experiences/help at all is fantastic. I appologize if I sound like an idiot or posted in the wrong area...just trying to get some knowledge. Thanks!

Agreed. And in general, rebuilding an old '70s block usually ends up being an inferior option. Your budget will determine whether you should just do a good used '87-up 350, or do that plus a re-ring job, or just buy new.
Also, if you haven't already addressed the exhaust system and the axle gearing, those may need to go in the budget as well.
If you're wanting it to sound like a full-race engine, then also budget for a looser converter if it's gonna be an automatic.

Re: Help a young man out.....
The ultimate goal is to break 300 hp peak with a modest amount of low end torque with a budget right now of only about four grand for the engine, which makes me think twice about stealth ram and forced induction. I've done a pretty extensive amount of autowork before, but never a full rebuild, and my parents dont think I can do it. So all I want to do with this first build is build something Im proud of and can show off, BUT still make a good amount of power accross the band to satisfy the driver in me.

300 flywheel or rear wheel? Even then, HP is just a number.
300 HP out of a 350 does not require Forced Induction, so throw that idea out. I vastly prefer Fuel Injection over carb, so I'd say go FI, however I'd never put a carb on a vehicle even if it came stock with a carb.

Haha I'm sure it's pretty easy to tell I'm a bit of an amatuer in comparison to many people on the board and I dont want to sound like an idiot....But I'm just not sure what combinations will work well with each other....
But as far as transmissions go, I have a rebuilt 700r4 with a 2200 torque converter sitting in the garage. Wanna wait till this engine is built...

Four grand is plenty. Subtract one grand for the headers and exhaust and rear axle, so you have $3000 for the engine. If you don't have to buy tools or an engine stand, then you can go all-new and still fit your budget.
I understand wanting to build your first engine, but I suggest just spending $2200 on the 12530282 then adding your choice of matching intake manifold, plus a carb and HEI.
This is a good recipe for easy high 13s. And later, you can do a cam and reach low 13s.
