I finally have my true duals finished on my formula, I used Heddman S-bends, going into a a h-pipe, then 35" back, the 2.5" bullet mufflers, then some dumps, right before the sway bar, check it out.
Then I painted the rear axle, right now I'm still working on installing the rear Spohn Lower control arm relocators, then the Lakewood control arms. I'll put in a Lakewood panhard bar later.
The cars making so much torque right now, with the car up on the jackstands; while I am idling, with the brakes all the way to the floor, the rear tires are still spinning. I have to turn the service/parking brake on, then it barely stops them from spinning.
that car looks excellent! the exhaust is simple, much like a couple of my old systems, very clean my friend.
i will tell you, from past experience...the brake problem you're experiencing is not too much torque from the motor, but rather not enough brakes, lol! you need to find out what's going on there...whether it be a sticking caliper or some old brake hoses, or what have you...check into that further...you should be able to stop.
Well thats the thing, when I Had it down from the jackstands yesterday, it holds back like it usually would. The calipers are the borgwarners, for the 9-bolt, they were replaced just before I bought the car along with a lot of other parts, because of the foolish owners, lol.
The action of the calipers, are working properly, but it may also be because, the car hasn't been driven in 5 years, just once around the block about two months ago, and the rotors are pretty rusty, so that doesn't help. I just took a brake class in the srping, so I'll look at ig more, but on my cardomain site, I have new videos up, and it sounds great, theres still some oil from the cylinders burning off, but it rumbles, about 98-100 db's at idle.
But some of the paint is starting to bubble, from the bad primer and paint they used in the 80's, its a little on the roof and hood, but that hood will be replaced with another next year, with that 6 banger from a 84 firebird, and that scoop I'm showing on my site.

I also spoke to a tech guy from hooker, named Darrel cook, and he was great. I told him about my problem with my headers, now I've put 4 sets of headers on my firebird, but got 5 from summit and one from hooker; the quality is better now. I still had to do a little cleaning of the primary tubes with my die grinder and carbide cutting bit, where they come together and enter the collector. Right where they cut the tubes, there is some tubing that is still moving right into the flow of the exhaust tubing, so I cleaned it up. The gaskets they give with the headers are still only 1-9/16" of an inch, when your using 1-3/'4" primaried headers, its like tying to breath through a straw instead of your hand open wide. So I sent him pics and a copy of the december 2003 issue of car craft issue, of headers coating vs. painting. After he got the pics and what I explained to him, within two weeks I had my new headers and over this last week I was installing them, and now have them finished and just about everything under the hood, I'll post more pics later tonight of the finished look.
If anyone has problems with hooker headers, ask to speak with Darrel cook, he's the only helpful guy from holley and hooker, the other guys are dicks.
Make sure that if you buy the coated ones, you run them through at least 5 heating and cooling cycles at idle, no reving high, and cool off completely after each cycle, then the coating is supposed to last. And he said to keep the luster finish, to polish them down with mothers mag and rim polish.
I added some new pics of the new set of headers I got from hooker, and everythings basically finished under the hood, for now, lol. I have some views of under the car shots too, check 'em out.
I know the pics aint the best but I need to get it back to work after I do the timing chain so I can take the pic on a rack.. but I ran the pipes off the headers out to the sides into a pair of 32' glasspaacks and put the dumps right in front of the rear tires 008.JPG
My firebird with the dynomax bullet mufflers, which are supposed to have stainless steel material inside, but basically similar to glass packs; the car idled at 98-100 db's, and when revved it went to 117-119db's. So barely legal, lol

i will post more pictures tomorrow after i have finished welding the pipes and have it all hung, those tabs holding it in the pictures were just temporary.
i am also going to try to fit an h-pipe into the system

Your exhaust looks good, hows it sound? I almost put side pipes on my bird, but I decided on dumps instead, to blow the burnout smoke out to the rear of the car.
well that's the disappointing part, hah i haven't gotten the car running yet. i've been working on other projects and this has been neglected. hopefully i'll have it running within the next couple of weeks.

i haven't checked the clearance yet, the car is still up on stands. i haven't finished welding the pipes yet.

the ground clearance is terrible! lol i have like 3". i guess i'll just have to make this a drag strip car.
i'll post pics when they're done uploading

SOUNDS SO BADASS, so much nicer then white car with the Flowmaster and this setup!
Sounds clips soon! : http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...1&l=7bed39b0d4

Here's a pic of my true duals after getting them welded up:
consists of: Hedman #LT-68460 full length headers (not shown of course, they're on car) Hedman Xtension S pipes #500-18806
Flowmaster H-pipe 2.5inch #15920
Cherry Bomb "mufflers" and a pair of turndowns (not shown)
All-in-all I'm very happy with the set-up. Header install went great. you just have to have patience and a die grinder! Passenger side went in no problem from the top. Drivers side went in from the bottom and had to trim out the engine crossmember and the rear of the A-arm where it wraps around the bushing. Headers bolted right up and required no denting or crushing of any tubes. I will take some more pics when I get the exhaust back on the car.
I just put a set of hooker Lt 2210 on my car now im trying to figure out what i wanna do about the exhuast..Im thinking about coming off the headers with hedman s bends and (maybe) a x pipe, 2 mufflers and then dumps..my question is If I go with a x-pipe will I have to chop on it or doing any custom bends?
i went with the old SLP dual exhaust style they go side by side all the way to the rear then split under the gas tank. its a work in progress but it sounds great and i have good ground clearance
i cut the y pipe in half before the merge and ran 2.5 inch pipes thru a xpipe then side by side under the driveshaft then up over the axle into 2 spiral moroso resonators then i welded to 3.5 inch hooker tips to them
wow that looks good! at first i thought that you had used some of that stupid flex exhaust pipe, but then i realized they were just crush bent pipes.
pretty clean setup.

i should get pics of mine uploaded. its super clean and fits great. i used the bassani true dual system off a 4th gen car. its 2.5 true dual out the rear of the car with an X-pipe.

Thanks, Jerrod
I have the same headers you do, scroll back a few pages and see my setup.
That flex tubing on an exhaust, is lame, and half a**ed, sorry, but you should have done better than that with some mandrel bent tubing, then it would be pretty sweet, maybe you should go back and change that flex tubing now!
Yeah, I know the flex tube is just temporary until i complete the mandrel bent sections, I just wanted to mock up and post pics to get some feed back. Dang, pretty brutal here...cut me some slack, other then the flex tube? what do you think?
I think it would be best just to replace the flex tubing with mandrel bent tubing, then the exhaust would be fine, because that flex tubing hurts the flow and is kind of a restriction, and velocity being the key to good power and mileage down low, is hurt because of that flex tubing.
Its good for a mock up, you'll just have to get some 90* and maybe some u-bends, take more pics when you have it mocked up. They aren't that expensive from summit for dynomax tubes.
I am about to get true dual exhaust on my 92 RS. I have the hedman LT headers on it now and i had problems clearing 3inch tubes under my car. I noticed some of you guys dont have the torque arm that goes from the rear end to the transmission.....do i really need it? if so why dont other models have it? The reason y i ask is because i wanted to try to run my duals tucked into the driveshaft valley.
if your going to run 3" tubing for a 5.0why motor, your going to kill your hp and torque, thats what you need for a motor about 550 hp, not maybe 240ish, or up to 300. Runnin a y-pipe and a single 3" tube is good for 450hp, so you may want to rethink your setup or run a 2.5" dual set up. There are a lot of setups out there, check them out, mine or others and see what you think.

I have found a great setup and it is only possible without the link from the rear end to the tranny. thats wht im askin....is there a way to delete it? I dont wanna run 3inch. I wanna run 2.5" duals but the best way ive seen is by sticking the pipes up in the driveshaft valley. but i cant with that link n the way. I mean I can run 2.5s other ways but that way seems like it has the most clearance. And one person here that had pics of his iroc didnt have the torque arm.
Another thing u should kno is im doing this exhaust because i out a 385 fast burn crate motor in my car with a hot cam. dynoed at 425hp. and i have a built 9bolt rear out of a 89 iroc.
