long tube headers

I read somewhere earlier that you cannot install a motor with longtubes bolted on. Is this the case or does it matter on the brand of header. This is going in an 85 firebird the motor is a carbed 350 with 700r4.

Re: long tube headers

Generally, it's hard enough to stuff a motor in with Any headers bolted on
Besides fighting the firewall, trans, steering and so on, most long tube headers need to be fought into place after the fact
I have a '78 full-size pickup and I had to put the drivers side header on from below because of the frame and steering
I doubt you have more room than me

Re: long tube headers

I can't say that it's impossible, but an engine can be hard enough to weasel into an engine bay and hook it up to a tranny without the headers.

I've always put the engine in without them bolted up......... just laid them close to the fenders in their approx location and hooked them up once the engine and tranny were together.

My

Man.......... I type slow

Ooo, good point. Didn't think to mention that...putting them in the bay to start with
Been 7 years since I swapped the motor
