Big block swap headers Hooker super comps
Well about a week ago i picked up a set of super comps. to replace the patriot headers i have on the car. the patriot work ffine but after taking the car out on its real first drive other than at a show or in my driveway or street i discovered it seemed to be struggling with getting air in and out of the motor I have a 930 cfm carb. plugs look fine but the little 8 inch air cleaner and the 1 3/4 primarys might be the problem. so swapping them out for the super comps should fix the issue nicely. well saturday night after my sons football game i decided to pull it apart. I removed the patriots easy to do remove valve covers wires and plugs unbolt and pull out from the top easy. done in about 2 hrs honestly didn't even get dirty. well tonight i figured i would get back to it and get the new ones installed. easy right there made for this should be a piece of cake. Boy was i wrong. passenger side only side i have done. this is what i had to do. removve started remove dipstick, remove motor mount bolt raise motor about 3 inches now the header is in. tightened it down went to put the slip tube in darn it won't go in with the other half of the header bolted up tight remove header again. put slip tube in tighten it back down put dipstick back in . ok now to the motor mount bolt darn again can't get to the back side of the motor mount to put the nut on tomorrow i will have to drop the header again put the bolt and nut on then put the header back on. this is just the passenger side now other issues i see is the started wires are going to be real close to the # 4 cylinder tube. and i thought this was going to be easy. One issue might be the fact i have a 7 quart pan with wings but really if this is the best hooker can do it's scary. still trying to figure how i am going to get the starter back up in where it belongs. hopefully the drivers side is easier. have admit tho once installed it does look alot better than the patriots but i liked the simplicity of the patriots just didn't like that they were shorties and had such small tubes. more to follow

How about some pics. Was your BBC conversion difficult and are you carbed or efi? What trans and rear are you using?

Re: Big block swap headers Hooker super comps
there is a ton of pics on thirdgen but the swap was easy it has been done for about 3 years but had to redo the body then got it back together then went to go to a show and the oil pump siezed so apart it came again. but here is asome pics. it's a 468 puts out about 600hp and 600 ft pds of torque the trans is a old turbo 350 non lock up version. and the rear is stock g92 option rear disk with 3.42 gears. it's carbed with a holley 850 flowed to a 930 the motor is my father in laws old drag motor in a 73 vega it ran 9.50 in the 1/4 before he built a bigger motor and this one sat of years before i picked it up. compression ratio is 13.5 to 1 so i have to use 110 octane. at $9.00 per gallon ouch. the tank right now has a 50/50 split of 93 and 110.

damn good looking car. Clean with no crap. Can you keep the a/c box with a bbc swap or does it have to go?

you can keep it depending on the valve covers / tall deck big block . in my case the car was going to be a drag only car but that switched half way through it and the a/c box was already removed i won a burn out photo contest with this photo from lunati

Re: Big block swap headers Hooker super comps
Well spent teh day trying to get the headers on. got the passenger side on by lifting the motor but couldn't get to the motor mount bolt to put it back on removed headers again put mount on then put headers back on went to do the starter with the 7 quart pan with the wings couldn't get teh starter on with the headers in place removed them again put starter in place hooked header back up cool passenger side done nope starter wires now touch the header have to reroute them on the top side of the motor mount instead of below tight to the oil pan.ok got that fix whew passenger side is back together cool so I thought. drivers side ok have to raise motor again to get it to slide in place mainly because of the oil pan wings header is in place except it won't go High enough theres a header primary tube that hits the bottom of the oil pan it will not go into place without either cutting the wing off the pan or the tube off the header. which neither am i going to do so now i am stuck I didn't like teh patriots being shorty headers and having a small exhaust i just didn't like it. i like the way the super comps look when done (passenger side ) but with my current setup I can not use the driverside header. the way i see it i have a few optiions. support the motor from the top. drop teh k member ( replace it with a tubular one since it is removed. and while the k member is out drop the pan and put a stock pan on. option 2 go back to the patriots. don't want to. or have someone cut and reweld the tube away from my pan. so I am now stuck. so this cool upgrade for teh iroc has become a headache.
