Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
Hello,
I am looking for a pair of new GM stamped strut towers. They will be going on an 85 Camaro.
Or if you have any information on where I could purchase some Strut towers, that would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the dealer? There may still be some left in the system somewhere.

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
I have talked to many dealers around here, and none of them seem to have any. I am on occasion picking up the search for them. Has anybody heard any rumors that Goodmark or Classic Industry might make any of them now? I can't seem to find anything in their catalogues.

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
are you looking for the strut tower or the inner fender well? classic industries sells the front inner fender skirts. 1982-92 $300.12ea. i have a 2002 catalog but the part numbers are G6827 RH and G6829 LH for 82-92 years. if you are looking for just the strut tower, i have some that are rust free and would easily be able to be painted to look like new. Pm me if you have any questions.

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
why would you weld in the strut tower? or were you reffering to the inner fender skirt as well?

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
i think some of you are confusing the strut tower with the upper strut mount. the strut mount is the adjustable/ removable part. I think he is looking for the actual strut tower... the steel cap above the inner fender that is a welded-in piece of the body. Then again, maybe the original poster is using the wrong name for the strut mount also. blacksunshine'91, you have Spohn upper strut mounts... believe me, you don't want to take out your strut towers!

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
JeremyNYR, you are correct, I am looking for the sheet metal weldment that the upper strut eventually bolts to.
SRHansen78, I know of the catalog that you speak of. I looked through a few while I was still in High School and they had them one year, then the next they had none. I have called a few places to no avail.
To tell everyone the truth, to the difficulty of finding these pieces, I am giving serious thought into purchasing a C5 front end and grafting it into my car once I get a garage to actually work on it.
Sorry for the lateness in my reply, I don't check this forum often. I am currently looking for a house to get into later this year, and by then I will be getting back into my restoration of my car. I really can't wait!

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
I would think that good used ones can be cut out of a parts car for next to nothing.

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
Yeah, I have thought about that. My only concern is to find a car that doesn't have the rust problems that I have. I live in the great white (salty) north, so I would need to travel a few hundred miles down south into an area where there are not so harsh winters.
I have looked on ebay for some corvette suspensions, and they are going for sub 1000 price ranges. There are also a few companies out there that offer late 80's Corvette kits to put into hot rods for about 800-1500 depending on options. I think with having my car completely torn apart at this moment, an upgrade such as this is not very unreasonable. Now compare that price to two NOS sheetmetal weldments, which are selling for over 300 bucks a few years ago. I am almost to the price of a Corvette suspension.
It is going to be a few months before I can really do anything with this car, but I am already considering fabbing/buying a car rotisserie to really help with the restoration.

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
I know of a zero rust 89 GTA body shell that went to the scrapyard in LATE '07 around here.
Really, those wouldn't be hard to find at all around here. Basically just hit a junkyard here & cut out what you think you need, plus a little extra, then trim to fit.

Re: Wanted: NOS GM Strut towers
I'm in Buffalo, so I know about rust. Sure a lot of junkyard cars are rusty, but I've seen plenty over the years with strut towers in very good condition. If you want to take on a complete corvette front suspension retrofitting project, then by all means go for it. But make no mistake about it, that would be a TON more work and cost than locating a good used strut tower and welding it into your car.
