88-89 IROC Rear Wheels (Silver)

I'm looking for a set of original rear silver accent 16 inch wheels for my daughters IROC for her birthday in December. She is obsessed with originality. Car is original except for the rear wheels and battery. They don't need to be in perfect condition but clean enough that they don't need to be refinished.

Or if anyone has any ideas on where I could look for a set that would be very helpful.

I have no issues paying to have them shipped or if within a days drive, I'd be glad to come pick them up.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Re: 88-89 IROC Rear Wheels (Silver)

There’s a bunch on Facebook in my area that are straight but missing center caps, clear coat pitting, and a little rash..

Its incredibly hard to find a nice set that isn’t on a low mile car..

I’m probably going to pick up the Hawks 17” 88-90 repros soon and save my originals so they don’t get damaged..

Facebook marketplace seems to have a fair amount around me.. If they aren’t perfect, refinishing can be another present and some places are pretty reasonable.. I think there’s a thread on here in the detailing section on how to refinish your own rims..

Re: 88-89 IROC Rear Wheels (Silver)

Thanks! I've been looking around on Facebook marketplace. You are right about condition. Most of the ones I see are in need of refinishing. Clear coat coming off most of them, otherwise in pretty decent shape. The hunt continues. We made the mistake when we replaced the rear tires of not putting the factory wheel lock lug nut back on. Someone stole the rear wheels and tires off the car but didn't get the front wheels as they still had the lock lug nut on them. My mistake for trying to cut corners. I'm not sure why anyone would want to steal stock IROC rims but I guess.

Re: 88-89 IROC Rear Wheels (Silver)

That looks like a good wheel but I think it may not be the correct color. This appears to be a Medium Gray and not the Arctic Silver wheel. Now the only way I've been able to tell the difference between the gray and silver wheel from a photo is the lug nut holes are slightly different on the gray wheel versus her arctic silver wheel which is in the photo below. Luckily I took pictures of them when we changed the tires in case the tire shop damaged them. On your wheel the top of the lug nut hole is cut, machined out beyond the top of the hole. My daughters wheels are not. I don't know if this is definitive proof of one color versus the other but I have seen seven gray wheels so far in person and those lug holes were the same as yours on all seven wheels. I did find GM documentation on the two different wheel colors but I don't recall what I did with it. I have heard there was only gray and gold wheels but I believe there were three colors offered. Now the lug hole differences might just be a difference in year of manufacture and have nothing to do with the color. I do know when you set a gray wheel next to her silver front wheel the color difference is obvious.

Any idea what year your wheel is?

Re: 88-89 IROC Rear Wheels (Silver)

Looks like there might be a date on the back of my wheel ??

It's an original GM Rear Wheel in good condition - that's all I KNOW.
