every time i check this guy's progress it is getting wilder and wilder i mean this all started out with a $1000 ''350" camaro and then became a big block swap project, leading to full frame rebuild,leading to a supercharger, leading to more custom work and now it's going from 454 to a 496 with aluminum heads

makes me really excited to see where it goes from here, at this rate of snowball it will be show ready top fuel car driven on the street by the time it's done lol

all joking aside this build is amazing, very few thirdgen's get built to this level, don't get me wrong there are some nice ones out there but this looks like it's going to be one of the best

Get rid of the power steering. Rack and pinion or a manual GM box is better. That torque arm could go to the back of the cage. Lots of guys have done that and put the pinion angle right on. A manual brake master CYL is another thought. We stop our Land Speed record car from 200 MPH with a manual master cyl. Not a problem. Really nice build. Have you thought about getting rid of the T tops. Even with a full cage we get lots of cracks around the roof. That big block with a huffer will put lots of twist into that puppy. I like it.

We actually thought of turning it into a targa top! Leaving the power steering, this is my girlfriend's car. Also leaving power brakes, we have an electric brake booster with external vacuum cannister. I have a full race Tbird in the works, and everything is done no holds barred on that car with the exception of running a small block.

Sounds great. Just didn't want you to reinvent the wheel like I have done. So many times. In fact my wife keeps asking me how many times are you going to rebuilt that car. I guess until I get it right is the answer. Looks like you have a great start. I would not turn my wife loose with a blower. I did once!

Top view of the lobster claw, this will all be blended into the frame and painted. Nother random shot, and yup we cut 16 inches off the panhard bar.

We are thinking of cutting the bottom corners of the rear wheel well lip to tuck the largest tire possible in there. We can gain another inch or two with some trimming (hopefully)

Also in the process of cutting the tailights out and putting some lexan in with spray tint. We are trying to get frenched corvette tailight look, but might be harder than it seems...

Yes, drum brakes staying on for now! I might upgrade down the road. Taking a month break from the project, trying to save for 1 off wheels from Boze. $5500 just for wheels!! Going with 20 by 8.5 up front and 22 by 15 for the rears. I imagine the tires are gonna be a couple grand too!!

Oh yeah, also exhanged the blower pulleys for a set of 5% pulleys. So it will 5% underdrive on the street and then flip em around for 5% overdriven on the track with race fuel.

Also gonna be doin some cool neat fabrication ideas on the fenders and ditching the tailights for something I don't think anyone has done with third gens.

Ok getting back on track might be a little cheaper on the wheel because I gotta go with a 21 inch wheel on the back because no one makes a wide enough tire. I am gonna try phoning some tire companies to see if someone would make me a 16" wide low profile tire, I think that a lot more people would drive their pro street cars on the street if they had enough tire, that is why lots of guys don't bother driving them because it can be a pain driving 700+ hp up a hill or in the rain (Ask me how I know)

PS: IF anyone can find a 22" inch tire at least 15" wide and 30 to 31 inches tall please let me know. Must be a street tire no slicks or drag radials

Thanks for the link, I went ahead and bought a set of those. Just got em in today.

Still gonna be another 5 weeks before the wheels get made.

Went with a 20" wheel x 31" tall x 15.7" wide tread.

The wheels are US MAGS Foose style similar to torque thrusts.

I can tell you there is gonna be a whole lot more cutting of the rear fenders. Even with 9.75" backspace the wheel is gonna be 1 inch past the outside of the fender lip. We might even have to re do the rear suspension lucky everything is only tacked in. We stopped the project until we get the wheels and tire mounted and will build the back of the car around them.

Well the guys in the shop are dead against pulling the fenders out, which I admit would take away from the whole point of the build, stock style suspension, and stock appearing body. Looks like the rear end is gonna have to be narrowed 4 inches per side.

Nope project is not dead, just waiting on parts. Got some pictures of the wheels and tires gonna post them soon. Also decided to go with a ladder bar suspension and a fabricated rear end. I have 14 cars and I am not rich so things are moving slow right now.

On the plus side, my 87 cougar is almost completed. Just finished up installing a T76 on the poor tired old 5.0

Just got the stereo left and maybe a higher stall converter and valvebody with trans brake (it doesn't like to spool that big boy )

Can't find the memory card for the camera, so might be awhile before I can post pix of the wheels they are pretty killer and they should be, they are only the third set so far, not going ahead until its just the way I want it. I am not willing to compromise, I got other cars for that
