1987 GTA 5.7 w/factory t-tops 16k miles
Well, my wife has the fever for a convertible and, truth be told, I wouldn't mind pursuing a TTA.
So, I have decided to put my prized GTA on the market and see what happens. If it doesnt sell, I get to keep it. Not a bad deal for me either way.
Bright red with Camel cloth interior. One of 1509 Canadian export cars so it has options that were not available with the 5.7 on cars built for US sale (t-tops, subwoofer speaker system and cargo screen).
It currently has 16,2xx miles. The tires have about 4k on them and the rims are beautiful. The only parts that have been replaced are the alternator, tires and fluids. Original floormats are still in the car and look close to new.
It's a Norwood car so it doesnt have the Van Nuys paint issues and I just gave it a 3 stage Maguires waxing just 2 months ago. Its only left the garage 2 or 3 times since.
The car was rustproofed when new so rust isnt an issue..
It has been driven though so there are some pinhead sized knicks (mostly along the leading edge of the hood) that have been touched up with factory touchup paint.
The car was appraised at $15,000 in 2002
There are 2 things that it needs.
- The power antenna quit last year and I havent had a chance to repair it. It kept running so I just unplugged the relay and it stays up.
- One of the factory subwoofers is blown. I have been holding out for an NOS replacement rather than fitting an aftermarket woofer into the enclosure so I leave the subwoofer system off.
What I have:
1987 Sales brochure
1987 Product guide w/order sheets
Copy of invoice
Copy of window sticker
Original Ohio registration from 4/87
Several other registrations
Carfax from 2002
Carfax from 2009
All service records since 2002 when it had 9000 miles
Bills of sale from previous owners
Several pamphlets that came with new car purchase
- Goodyear mini-spare
- Let's Talk sevice checklist
- Delco 2000 series music system
- 1987 Maintenance schedule
- Goodyear Tire protection Plan (in original owners name)
What I dont have:
- owners manual
- t-top shades
Here are 2 links with pics and additional info

Re: 1987 GTA 5.7 w/factory t-tops 16k miles
Bump for an absolutely beautiful car. I have a white 87 350 Canadian GTA with t-tops. Not quite as nice with nearly 80k miles but all original and far nicer than most I see. If I had the cash right now I'd buy it in a second. Just curious, have you ever found any more info on these cars other than that they were only available in Canada? (Exact production figures, how they snuck out into the US, etc.)

As far as how some made it to the US, I would assume that most started life in the hands of Canadian owners and were eventually sold and imported back into the US. Mine was never registered in Canada. A woman from Ohio was the first owner.
Price drop to $13,000 FIRM.
