I'm out to, I would of bought @ $200.00 which I think is a fair price. The one nice thing about this is that there are other places to do business with besides Hawks. So not only did Bruce lose 16 purchases, he also lost 1 future customer here. Thanks for doing the leg work on this GP. Looks like I will go with the Z-28 Highrise spoiler & buy it off of ebay for $100.00.

So who's still in it for $275? I'm still interested if we get enough people. I wrote to Hawks and there still waiting on us. I'm assuming at this price that were basically getting free shiping.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

here's just a thought, if you email hawks, ask him to set #s up of the price...i mean it may take a while but with 50-60 purchases at once you'll keep him busy and like previously said...his profit has to be over $100 a piece just putting fiberglass into molds so i mean ask him to set levels...savings at 20 ppl, 30 ppl, and be outragious go up to 70 or so, i don't know just a thought, he was ready to drop $25 for 15 people, try and talk him into something like for every 15 people drop $25, with quantity up he'll still make a killing. At that rate with 60+ people it would be down to the desirable $200 range. And with winter coming upon us and some of us can't use our cars so maybe it's enough time to kill to get a lot of people together. Just my two cents.

Well put. If a decent GP went together for spoilers in general I'd be in for a 'Bird wraparound...

Its not going to go good price wise. At least not on the 5". I've done this before, and with how much fiberglass costs and what not. The figure he gave is about all they can do on them no matter how many ppl are interested. I can try and find my email from this if I still have it.

More than have already responded, that's for sure. I wonder if Hawks simply sponsors TGO and never checks in here...I think I'll end up over at GT Fiberglass.

they will fit an '88, its just because there is no brake light on the aftermaket one.

Oh, thought they meant it wouldn't fit or something. I have the high rise spoiler on my car now and that doesn't have the 3rd brake light

Still too much for a GP price.

its a possibility.. I know nothing about fiberglass so i am not sure what is involved and how difficult making a mold would be. Still, if they could do the mold and sell it cheaper then Hawks, and GP and such, it should definitly be worth it. I guarantee these things would sell like hotcakes if they were closer to $200 than $300.

anyone have contacts with GT Fiberglass?? Also. would the Hawks spoiler be copyrighted? if not, wouldnt it be easiest to send GTF a spoiler and let them reproduce it (or improve it)? Even if it is copyrighted, I would think some good long hard looks at a Hawks spoiler would make development of a GTF spoiler very easy...

any opinions/contacts/ideas ???

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

you gotta think...if they just start a mold and start production measures to make these spoilers...the first bunch are going to be a fortune to cover the molding, time, labor, ect. to cover the initial charges so that they move into profit quicker. Hopefully gt fiberglass won't do that but thats normally how it goes. Ask them saying that thier first sale will be a group purchase, and see if they are willing to be good about the price. This is why hawks should be cheaper by now.

I don't see how hawks could copyright a custom design. There are aftermarket versions of the 91/92 z28 spoilers. Suggest a donor program in which you send in your present z28 lip spoilers third brake lights and see if they can include that in the mold of the first set. Then gt fiberglass can make with or without the third brake light so that every year can be covered. It might be an edge that gt fiberglass is interested in against hawks. Just a couple suggestions to go to gt fiberglass with.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

Has anyone emailed them already? If somebody has make sure to provide a link to this thread. Hopefully GT Fiberglass will see the demand for a more affordable 5in spoiler, and be able to help us out.

If they do help us out should there be any changes in the design of the spoiler? My opinion is that the spoiler looks way better on a car with an aftermarket hood, like a cowl hood or something. I mean it looks great on a Camaro with a stock hood, but I was wondering if there was anyway of making it look more at home for those who are sticking with a stock hood? If that makes any sense.

i was planning on emailing them tommorrow. Ill be sure to include a link.

as far as changes to the design go, Im not sure that would be best. If you want a 3 piece that fits the stock look, use the stock one . Personally, with me looking out for a cowl, Im going to be using this spoiler to balance the look. However, I do believe offering a 3rd brake light version would be a good idea. Does anyone know if this would involve anything more complicated then leaving a hole in the wing??

We'll see what happens.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

haven't seen the stock ones, but looking at all the other third brake light spoilers it doesn't appear to be that difficult. It was just an idea so that people actually have a choice to have a concieled included 3rd brake light, whether adding safety to that older camaro that didn't come with one, or making it look stock and not having to fool around with wiring, just a very simple replace, or they have the choice of going without, whether or not the need for the third brake light. Can't be that difficult though, i believe the leaving a hole in the spoiler should be pretty simple, but it all depends on how the third brake light mounts.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

my (future.. dang title) car doesnt have the third brake light, so i have not the slightest idea whether or not it is just a simple hole or not. However i see no reason why they cant just leave the hole and have the buyer swap over his/her current third light to the new spoiler.

Does anyone know if their prices are cheaper or compairable to Hawks? I just had a look around their website, but it seems pretty sparce and hard to get the proper pricing info.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

there is normally for the most part (been dealing with birds so) a 1/4 inch or slightly bigger hole made for the wires and there is a molded gasket type filler plug molded around the wires to keep out moisture. As far as third brake lights, again mainly dealing with birds...there would just need to be a flat panel to screw your brake light into, other than that there doesn't need to be much more cut out to fit it other than a hole and possibly a little room for wire to be stored. But then again thats like an extra hour of work if they can't put any provisions into the molding stage.

Can't help ya on gt fiberglass, but i would suggest this thread go to how many people are interested in $250, and then you'll have numbers to go to them with...possibly do two stages...people interested in $200, and people interested in $250, obviously the people interested in $250 are intersted in $200, but there will be different numbers for you to go to GT Fiberglass and ask them if you can do it, with the suggestion of the addition of brake lights, possibly any cosmetic changes that everybody can agree on (i.e. round edges on the ends instead of squared, just one i've seen in the past), and if everyone can agree, then maybe GT Fiberglass will work with you guys if the numbers are good. Just a couple suggestions, do with them as you please. Hope you guys can get what you need/want. Good luck!

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

i have the high mount 3rd brake light, and hate it. it gets in the way, and i can't see **** around it in the rear view. i would honestly pay $300 for this spoiler if someone offered it with the brake light. i love the look of the 5" wing, and have every intent on buying it, and would be VERY happy to pay the same price with the 3rd brake light provisions, to lighten my work load in swapping over, instead of having to come up with a way to mount one myself.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

Some other company needs to maufacture the 5" Spoiler and market it for around 175.00 to 200.00 and they could make a profit and probabliy make more profit because they would sell and not just be setting on the shelf. I to agree that 299.00 + shipping is way over priced. If shipping was included in that price it wouldnt be bad. I have wanted one to for my project 82 camaro but I dont like the 299.00 price tag for a spoiler. You would think with a shelf setter they would lower the price til they found a price that people were willing to pay for it and leave it there.Since i hanot seen very many cars with them installed its got to be a shelf sitter because of the price.

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

several companies have a new email describing basically everything that they need to know. Hopefully they will bite, but only time will tell. I would think a leg up on hawks would be all they needed but we'll see

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

Id like to see a wider version like the 87-89 brake light spoiler. The whole reasom why hawks spoiler doesnt fit 87-89 cars is due to the light. The holes are drilled differently on the hatch to accomidate the light. Its easy to make the skinny spoiler fit tho. I myself like the look of the fatter spoiler and would like to see a 5 inch like that. Also I dont like how the side pieces of the hawls spoiler extend past the end of the tail light, just doesnt look right. Hopefully they can do something for us. I dont live to far from them, I kno they have third gens there but I wouldnt mind offering my baby up as a test car.

Wow I never noticed that, but your right. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
Here some pics about what he's talking about:

84redta, you mentioned rounded edges do you remember who did it, or have any pictures?
I think changes like these would be for the best. Opinions?

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

for the life of me i can't remember who it was, and i spent 20 minutes looking for it, i can't find it...try a search above looking for "hawks 5" spoiler rounded" and try different variations, you might get something, but i did find this guy did what i talked about...hope this helps clarify for you guys!

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cama...ks#post3400688

i would prefer this if i was going to modify my camaro, these camaro's weren't square boxes for a reason, and i don't understand why the hawks wing is almost perfect 90* angles, idk, but i like the spoiler that came on the cars (wish is was longer like you guys obviously do), but notice it's rounded, if you go to this page above, and look at i think his last pic is where you get a decent shot of it, it looks like a stock longer wing, i really like it. Hope this helps!

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

GREAT NEWS GUYS

I have found a company that is very interested in making us a new wing. They were already considering making one, and this was good motivation for them to do so. First, they wondered what changes we would like to make to the spoiler because they would like to make it better then Hawks. I suggest either posting the change u want very clearly in the thread or PM me.

second, if you have any interest in contributing, please PM me.

This is very good news if you ask me!!

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

oh ok, i was going to say i'll throw them mine if they promise to throw one back :-p good luck finding someone to donate theirs though.

i wish i knew someone locally that had one to offer, there is only three camaros i know of in town, and only two birds in like a 25 mile radius unless you count all the ones keeping cows company in the fields (sad really but true). Good Luck!!!

Re: hawks 5" spoiler??

I have recieved insurance that any donor spoiler will be returned to their owner. (in what i can only assume is perfect shape).

i have also been informed that there is the possibility of a free spoiler being given away, basically to whoever we decides deserves one the most. Just alittle extra motivation
