I mounted the guage to the right of the hood latch release on the underside of the driver's dash area. I plugged my sensor into the t-stat housing. That was where it went on the v-8's in 1980 for sure (that was where the engine came from out of my 80 camaro) and it works very well right there.

I would have to say you have a bade temp sending unit. lol probably cost you as much to get as my guage did lol.

At least it seems that way with these cars sometimes. If I even had a clue as to where my old wire was for the stock guage (I can not seem to find the end of it anywhere) I would probably plug it into the temp sending unit that came with my 3 core radiator.... I know in the z28 I have a digital guage set in that right now, and one goes to the passenger head. and the other to the t-stat housing. and there is about 20 to 30 degrees difference between the two. the one in the head reads right away though while the one in the t-state housing only reads after it has opened up a little. but it lets me know what it really going on

interior looks nice and clean. much better than mine.. but mine was that tan / black interior with the light tan leather seats... front seats are so cracked it is scary... back seats are in perfect condition (i never let anyone sit in the back lol. not that there is any room at all anyhow back there) but yep.. looks like a paint job is all you really need... Mine could use a few things.. a pai9nt job is one.. and a different rear tail light... I have two miss matched ones on now from previous owner... just noticed that 2 weeks ago.. (about 2 years after i have had the car lol) Are the ones on yours the stock ones. and if so do you have any closeups so i can check them out.. to see which one is the one that was replaced.. (i think i have a z28 one on the passenger side.. from a 85 on car.

U have a/c? I ripped mine out somewhere along I-90 over in idaho in the mountians on a tripo out to washington.. thing was fine.. then it locked. then the clutch came off then it was on fire.. douse with water... unbolt. through down the side of cliff in fustration.

as for gas.. that is scary.. i get 18 to 19 in my 305... well on the average i have had some days it runs out at about ooooooooo 10mpg... but only if the a/f adjustment screws have turned out, or thefloat is stuck... or i am showing one of the naighborhood imports a thing or two lol.

Yea that would probably help tons..... need to do something to the thing..

Yours is the 2 barrel version right? Have not actually ever seen a 2 brrl carb lol.. but it should be about 1/2 as hard as a 4 brrl. and about 40 times easier than the 4160 holley i have (I swear i am going to buy a new one.. this one is just a pita since it was setup for a manual truck 350.. and all the little parts to change to set it for a 305 . ug.. i jsut want one that has come right out the box lol.. easy to start the tune then lol.

get a quadra jet yea i got the 2 barrel verson (sry for the late reply) im sure it would be easier if i knew anything about carbs I fished out my Build sheet today however some boxes are missing (as in that part of the paper is gone) However i believe i got all the RPO's for the car
and i now have two new frount speakers, but sadly i had to cut the wireing harness to put them in i really hate doing it, but i love my new speakers, Got them for free and they sound better then the stockers that were in there

Wow i used a lot of smiles in this post.. and heres another one

LOL. I am going non stock lol. I am going to throw a FI setup onto the engine lol. The whole carb thing is fine, but the FI gets much better fuel milage most times, and it really is a little bit easier to deal with really. at least for me since i now have a huge assortment of Fuel injection programs and computer tuner's lol. The quadrajet would be useless. I have 2 of them lol.. Without the computer to control them they are done lol... I would sell them both if i didn't have two other camaros with those carbs lol. Tis a pain. Good to know you have RPO codes lol. I tracked mine down and amazingly the dealer still had the invoice slip in thier files... i was surprised they kept the record so long.. but they also told me my car never came with an RPO sheet.. arg... so I am going to go crazy on this one... oh yea.. I have my father looking for a 2000+ vette with a manual tranny while he is out picking up crashed cars. (he drives truck and so far he has brough back a mercedes SUV and a 2004 mustang GT. Both the people bought at actuions for less than 3k in fact the mustang was only 2k.

If we can get a vette with the back half torn off for less than 3k.. I will have one heck of a nice motor trans lol setup

lol. no instead you have to tune the carb. unless it is a CC Quad carb.. in which case i do thing there is a little computer tuning you can do with that as well.. Would not bother me any to tune. I am going to have a laptop built into the front dash lol. well a small computer anyhow lol.. So many uses that can have. I was planning on haveing a few programs stored on the computer so once i get my TT setup running. I can load the boost program of choice and adjust the boost from in the car (yes i actually have one of those nifty things lol). That way when i am running on the road I can cut boost to 0 and load the no boost program. and when i want to hit it hard and push power for racing I can turn up the boost, and load the boost program.

that sounds sweet i just hate FI, for stupid reasons, Like i rather have to do the full carb tuneups, rather then just do the Change the sparkplug wires/plugs/injectors which rarely ever go out and i dont know my way around a FI engine like i do a carbed

there are all kinds of them out there.. I have seen them go for like 100$ for the block and heads. Parts are a little easier to come by.. Another though it you could change the intake on the 6 to a 4bbl intake.. I know they are out there.... But the problem you would have then is the computer... mostly because the 6 cyl computer wouldn't know what to do on a v-8 lol. I think that is why most people rip those computers out of these cars... them things are a royal pita when it comes to modifications.

You know. Berlinetta's and LT's should get thier own posting area especially for them, since really they are a bit different than the rest of the camaros (except for the sports coupe), but they have a bit of uniqueness to them that advice from other people about the cars (unlkess they have one) May now always be the most accurate. Even the interior's are slightly different.

that would be sweet , I just finshed washin my clear coat disaster of a paint job, and found out that my hole car was repainted this car has gone through 2 paint jobs already. AND i was wrong, My headlight pockets were orginally black on the first paint job, i can see where they masked off the paint so that they can repaint the headlight pockets by the looks of it they didnt spray the hole car, The jams still have the orginal 83 paint

Sorry to have to say I told you, but i did. Berlinettas have the lower part and headlights painted in a contrasting color. Black is the most comon I would geuss maybe 75-80 %. The 3 slits in fron is painted in the contrasting color also.
Yes I love berlinettas but it is very hard to find one in nice condition, or nice and original looking
Thanks Randy

not ad.ine does about 30ish when idleing, and about 40ish when runing down the road.. But mine also has an oil seal blown somewhere on the pan... more than likely it is the front seal.. Have had problems with that ever since i replaced the timing chain. oh well. It smokes a little when it is shut off.... but I never actually lose any amount of oil (it takes it about 2 months to leak about 1/2 quart out)

Not sure if i posted it in here or not.. But here is a pic of the car.. still looks as it did then. well. except for a little paint fade on the rear passenger quarter where the sail panels sit.

I Also have an 84 z-28. the Nice metal blue one.. it has black pockets and I also have a red 84 berlinetta, however the pockets on that are the ame color as the rest of the paint (all OEM) So i guess I do not know really about the pocket painting. I do not that the three slits in the front were always the same color as the rest of the body. Have been on every single Sport Coupe and Berlinetta I have seen so far (And that is quite a few)

nice lookin berly i would find the 3 peice spoiler and put it on, would make it looks so much more agressive IMO, the back ends of the maros look too plain with out a spoiler

I completely agree.. And you could get the spoiler on ANY model camaro as an option.. So I have indeed been keeping an eyeball out for one. Although i have been looking at some of the aftermarket ones.. Nothing that stands way off the deck.. that just does not look right unless the rest of the body fits it. I was thinking one of those late thirdgen Iroc spoilers... not like on the z.28... but the larger one that is like a 3 or 4 pesdestal one.

I never though i would see the day where my 2.8 would break loose on dry pavement, That day was today

anyways, Just an update on my bit of restoration, I got a few things planed for this winter, mostly cosmetic, some mechanical, im gonna be going to a Junk Yard hopefully this weekend and see what kind of interior peices i can get for the car, (looking for a dash pad, and various other piecies so i can do a 4 speed tranny swap, and searching for a 700r4 tranny as well) What years should i be lookin for, for the 700r4? the 86 up? or any year?

yea the 86+ years are the ones you want.. as far as the dashpad... I got the last brand new OEM one about 4 months ago... and i do mean the very last one GM could find... had to go all the way to a shop in Napa Cali to get it lol. My biggest problem is my engine in it right now.. I need to richen up the mixture.. as it appears to be running really lean.... have no idea why... but it is.

first you have to find it.. then depending on how it was sealed either drill it or heat it... On my quadrajet they filled the screw holes with lead.. so i melted it out.. on some though u have to drill them.

Oh yea.. i think my engine is kicking it... *sigh*
darn thing has this knock in it and i can not figure out why... and it is driving me crazy.. I richened up the fuel mixture and no change really (there was a slight one to the better) but there is nothing that is really helping... Only thing i can think of is perhaps it nees a cam, cuaseing it to not get the proper air/fuel mix in the cyl and then out of the cyl.... only thing i have not changed on it other than the bottom end..... i wonder if the valves are adjusted to tight if it would cause it...

Yea I got it figured out.. one of my valves is bad in the #8 cyl.. explains alot.. and needs a new cam as well.. looks pretty old and worn.. so things for winter since the car is being put up.... Snow is supposed to fly this week or next week.. first snow and car is garaged lol. Finally got some parts for a rack, going to have the things welded together so I can lift all 4 corners of the car off the ground at once should be interesting. I to am looking at paint and wether stripping for my car. Also in that is a new set of headers.. I was thinking the popular LT Hookers. And then going with a nice full 3 inch true dual using the oval pipe (I have about 50ft of it sitting in the garage).

Replaced the heater core today after a month or so of a SMALL Leak, the thing decided to spill its guts all over the interior anyways, ive toying with the idea of either a 3.4 or v8 swap in the maro, and say screw the concorse show car idea that i had in my head

concourse show car Idea? why. does the car have to be ablsolutely bone stock? If not there are tons of v-8 305 engines out there.. build a nice bottom end on it.. get some decent heads, and a cam. and then TT the thing and it should put down very nice numbers lol (I have all the parts for one excepts the exaust manifold/headers for it... although i have been thinking of scratching the 305 and going with a 396/427 engine... Since I doubt i could get any less gas milage than i am right now with my current setup lol. I have finally started the work on my custom hood and custom airbox for it... (i so need more air for that engine). also started on a fiberglass sub box where the rear seat is now.. to get the stuff out of the back window... it is in storage now.. so I can finally take the inside apart and get that all done.. While i am doing that I have been thinking about making some carbon fiber replacement panels for the dash (like the ones under the steering column, kick panels.. and such.. the ones that the holes for the fasteners break out of..) I finally havea heated area i can do the layups and such so that is awesome.. Was thinking about doing up a center console as well since i have to remove the HVAC and radio in order to hook the vac line back up to the HVAC that Bestbuy disconnected or broke when they installed the radio..... lots of things to do.. also looking at seats for the car... as the white leather ones have had it.. along with a new carpet for them and headliner.... (being more than 20 yo sorta kills oem carpet and such lol.. it is littereally shedding). the rear sail panels are the same way... the carpet on them has come off, and the plastic on either side of the rear seats is dry rotting now... so I figured I would take them out. make a mold of them and recast some carbon fiber ones... some nice strong hard fricken panels lol... and then perhaps add an area for a second set of speakers in them or something.

*edit* Oh yea.. and can not forget about the heater core lol.. which is the reason it is in storage already ( no snow yet ) . hard to drive a car in this weather with no heat to defog the windshield and keep your nubs from freezin... that one took a crap on my and thankfully leaked down the outside of the firewall, instead of on the inside of the car... that would have really pissed me off... like my carpet does not have enough problems already lol
