Im sure GM and Recaro both have this info.
Recaro should be able to provide number of seats shipped out in 85 and 86 (seats are the same, 86 did have power seat railing though)
I think I will write Recaro
The fact that you dont see many should give you a level of confidence that not many where made and very little are left.

Follow Up:
The OEM Sales Manager from Recaro look search his archives per my letter below. (I copied PHS but dont expect a response.)
Dear Recaro USA,
I'm the proud owner of a 1985 Trans Am, factory equipped with Recaro seats.
It may be Idealseat III N Std LS 77 model, not sure.
This seat was an exclusive feature of the Recaro Special Edition Trans Ams in 82-84,
It was also standard in the 83 Trans Am Daytona Edition and 84 15th Anniversary Trans Am.
In 85 and 86 there was no longer a Special Edition Model, but the seats were still and option, GM RPO "AS5"
There are very few 85-86 Recaro Option Firebirds left.
My question concerns how many seats were shipped to Pontiac during 85 and 86?
I'm looking for how many because nobody knows how many Firebirds were built at the GM Norwood and Van Nuys plants with this option.
From a collectors standpoint this info is very valuable and I appreciate your time.
I have attached two photos for reference, this is the seat supplied in 85 and 86 from Recaro to GM.
Kind Regards,
Don

Hey Don - Do you have any Recaro docs that came with the car-
I have a Recaro warranty Registration card & Keiper Recaro form #L100 5/84 that was a quality control checklist - lists the seat number Z710110750- looks like the style , and a serial number . Also notes it is a Special - with hand written : FB 85
FYI

I just found a beautiful 86 Recaro T/A for sale at a local dealership with only 42,000 Miles. But I am currently out of work, so won't be able to add it to my collection
Oh and here is another 86 Recaro http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/recarota.html

It was just a high density foam pad, IIRC it was the type of foam that looks like a bunch of smaller pieces glued together. Width of the center section, about 5-6" high, 1/2" thick, 45'd on top and bottom of the 6". I never noticed a difference with it in or out.

Re: whats the rpo too these seats??
those seats look like Lear Siegler seats not Recaro. These came on all the older Mustangs(87-93 I think). These also came in my 84 turbo T as an option--listed as Lear Siegler.
----------
my t-type seats. They were listed as Lear siegler seats.
