Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

First time was in 1982 when the Camaro first came out. A friend in high school got one. Was probably the coolest looking car in the high school parking lot that year. Later, I got my first camaro in 1986 a brand new sport coupe, that was a fun car but had some problems. The paint went bad in 18 months, the car got rear ended. By the time the car was five years old w/84,000 miles it need a new tranny, fuel injectors, air mass sensor, radiator, paint, shocks, struts. I was pretty much done with 3rd gens...then the 91's with the new ground effects came out. Car & Driver had a nice article on the cars...next thing the 86 gets 86'd for new 91 RS.

I still love the way the 91-92's look & enjoy the RS, after 20 years & 300K + miles.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Back in the 80's, my older sister had a charcoal '82 Z28 and her boyfriend had a black and gold '84 T/A... I really liked both cars. Then in 1988, the school jock's dad bought him a brand new Black and Gold Iroc. He was an ahole, but I loved his car. His dad put a huge system in it for him. He always drove around with the bass kickin'. Then one day he drove it to a Hawks' game in downtown ATL. He came back out and it was GONE....Turned up a couple weeks later under a bridge, completely stripped out. So his dad bought him a porche to replace it. Anyway, I fell in love with those 3 cars and in '94, I bought my first 3rd gen. It was a '91Z28 with 45k on it. It was white with a 350tpi and hardtop. Loved that car. The motor grenaded itself 5k miles later and chevy replaced it with an LT1 crate motor since it was available. Had to get rid of it 5 months later due to finances.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

It was late 1981 the ads were out for the new camaro's and I wanted one so went to the dealers sat down with the option sheet and factory ordered my 1982 Z28. Picked up in May and have not looked back since.

I still have it the first time I sat in it it had 24 km and now 137,000 km.
it was a daily driver for the first 9 years of it's life, autocrossed hard for the next 8 years, mostly a garage queen now..

still comes out to play on nice days, needs paint, needs a stroker, get this still has the factory 82 exhaust.. less cat of course..

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

When I was fifteen I had been looking for a muscle car for a few years, but being a poorer kid at 15 back in 1999 you couldn't touch anything. Then I shifted to 5.0L Mustangs and was hooked on those--those of you who were a teen back in the late 90s know those were more or less the hot cars since they were affordable, good looking, and pretty quick in stock form. I was looking but not finding anything good, and then one day my mom and I and a family friend went to see another family friend at his body shop for something. His body shop was far off the road, and was the back half of a big new building, so to get to it you had to drive down a long road along the side of the building to get around to the back, where his shop was. As we were driving back there, straight ahead backed into the back of his lot facing us as we drove up was a bright red 91-92 RS, with a scraped front lip but otherwise flawless. I remember how low and wide and hot it looked sitting there, and I ran up to it and looked inside and saw the black leather seats and 32,000 miles and I was hooked. I always thought the foxbody Stangs had ugly interiors, and oddly enough seeing the awesome interior of the later third gens sealed the deal--I was hooked on third gens from there on out. Truthfully I was still looking for a 5.0, but I opened up to looking more at Camaros even though I knew they were generally slower (sans 350 cars but those were out of my price range of $4k-$5k). Then one day I just happened to glance at the autotrader (back in the weekly paper magazine days) and see a 90 Camaro listed with everything I was looking for--V8, AT, AC, PW, PL, PM, etc etc, with a pricetag of $4300. I went and looked at it and have owned it ever since. Hard to believe that was 11 years ago. Funny thing is, I remember when I bought it that I didn't really like the blue, that I wanted to paint it bright red like the one at that body shop (which happened to be there just for that front lip spray). So glad I never painted it.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I was into cars since I was a little kid. I still have my Matchbox collection of the well worn variety.
I was not aware of what “muscle car” meant growing up in the 60’s and 70’s but I have vivid memories of some cool rides I later learned were muscle cars. I had good taste even then. I also remember the gas shortages my dad complained about in the 70’s. The car companies had to increase the gas mileage while emission standards killed what was left of the horsepower. It wasn’t until the early 80’s that horsepower began finding it’s way back into sport cars. I bought my first new car in 1980, then another in ’84. But it was the third gen Camaro and Firebirds that got me back into the showroom again. They looked great and sounded even better. My girlfriend (now wife) was the first to buy an ’86 Camaro. I loved driving that car. My goal for that year was to get my own apartment first without roommates and then buy a new Trans Am. After finding a great apartment I only had enough money in the budget for a 1986 V6 Firebird. It’s black with T-Tops and Saddle interior. 24 years later I have the same lady and the same Firebird although we all could use a little make over. I never grow tired of my Firebird.
Thanks for the stories!

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Saw a mint red 91 RS with T-tops that was brand new on 6th Street here in Austin, Texas and loved the looks.

I was graduating from U.T. Austin in Dec. 1991 and once I graduated, I bought a used red 91 RS with a 305 tbi and 5 speed and t-tops.

Kept that car until 1999 with 114k miles. Never left me stranded. Great everyday car.

Here is a scanned pic from late November 1997 with Santa visiting the neighborhood with the 91 RS matching the fire truck.

Enjoy

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I was never into 3rd gens specifically, I was into 2nd gen T/As big time because my father had a 79 10th anniversary through out my childhood. He sold it and bought a 05 GT Stang off the showroom floor in Huntington beach cali while we were on vacation in 05. So from 05-08 I was a big time Ford guy, until I found my GTA. I wondered over to the car lot it was at and was mesmerized by it sitting there. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time I was looking at it wishing it could be mine. Having such a rare black and gold Trans Am in almost mint condition was a dream for me and I really didn't think it was going to happen especially for a first car. I brought my mom back to see it a couple hours later and the next day it was mine! Was the happiest day of my entire life so far!

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

It was December 1983 and a friend of mine gets a brand new 1984 Z28 5.0 HO, T-Tops and its even red--I was so jealous and just loved the car! I had a 1967 Ford Mustang with the 289 V8 but it just didnt compare to his Z28. I spent my junior and senior year cruising and driving around in that car and just loved it (especially during the summer with the T-tops off!!)...Then the IROC came out the following year and I was even more in love with these cars--told myself that I had to get one but I was young and in college and went with the more reliable cars (mazda's, acuras and nissans)....

Finally purchased a 1989 IROC in 1998 but that thing was a lemon--constantly in the shop every month for $500 or more in repairs!! 8 months later the motor overheated (in October!!) and I lost a cylinder. I decided to trade it in before I got stuck with another huge repair bill. Always regretted that decision though (should have just parked it in the garage and waited until I was ready to build a nice engine for it)...Anyway, fast forward 11 years and I realize its time to get another IROC--I always stare at them on the road and would pull them up online...

Found my current 1988 IROC in Feb 2009 and just frickin love this car--105k original miles, T-tops and in close to mint condition--I feel like a kid again (especially during the summer with the T-tops off!!). The cool thing is that Im single and 43...I have a BMW, a Durango R/T and the IROC and when Im taking a woman out I will ask them what car they want to go in and time and time again I get them saying "lets take the IROC--that sounds like a fun car". Everytime we have a blast and it really does make you feel like a kid again!! Anyway, I will never sell this car! Love it too much!

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Ever since my mom got an 04 mustang in 05 (I was 11) I have always wanted a muscle car of my own (the mustang was a V6) I was really interested in mustangs. But about a year ago we started looking for cars and I was just looking for 80s and 90s stangs. But everyone I saw was about 5,000 for just one in decent condition. So this guy my mom worked with said he had a blue 89 Trans am or something that he might sell. So I started looking at third gens on craigslist and started to fall in love. Then one day I was told he wasnt selling it because his dad wanted to fix the body up so he could sell it for more. I was disappointed so I started looking for camaros because I liked the looks of them more than firebirds (sorry Firebird lovers). After about a year of searching I found my 87 IROC-Z!

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

i got into them back when i was a kid my dad bought our 85 in 86 after it was stolen from factory and recovered by a dealership who did a shitty job rebuilding it, they menat well by trying to undercoat it but they trapped water inside of it so it now has major rust issues, after my dad attained it he rebuilt it a few more times, took it to car shows, one several burnout contests and then my parents got divorced. asw the divorce rolled on my father lost his job and couldnt take care of the care as it used to be, after awhile he couldnt afford to drive it at all,and lost the keys, so he parked it OUTSIDE which he really regrets. during the 4 years it was parked i bought a 1979 trans am last year when i was 16, i didnt have much money so the build was slow, and my dad told me i could have the car if i sold the t/a. so i did and about a few months ago i acquired the car and have been rebuilding since.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I've been around muscle cars all my life, I can remember my dad owning a few muscle cars (Z28's, Mustang Mach 1 etc) and even him taking me to car shows and teaching me the names of all the cars, then we started to name them when we were driving down the road and even on TV. We never paid much attention to new cars (I was born in 88, so the muscle car era was nearly, if not already, over.) We'd watch Smoky and the Bandit, laughing at ol' Deputy Justice... but it wasn't until I was 16 and my father had passed that I noticed the third gens, a 91 firebird formula in particular. I got it for a good deal and have loved 'em ever since. I can go as far to say that if the right car is in my view that my wife still gets a little jealous of that car.

When I was 3 or 4 years old, I got into 3rd gen. Mainly Firebirds because of Hotwheels and Matchbox cars, which I still have. Favorite one, as a kid, was a black 1983 Trans Am with a power bulge, dual mufflers, and t-tops.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I got into them back when i was a small boy walking home from school. On my route home from school there was an older gentlemen with a black and gold Iroc Z. So everyday i would walk by his house on the way home i would look and stare at his car, man that thing was mint. He kept it for as long as i went to school there. Ever since it's been kind of a motoring idol to me. I finally decided to buy one. I just (just = last week) bought myself a 1982 Z28, T Top with an LG4 and TH350-C pretty much bone stock except for a hideous paint job. It was painted a few years ago a bright tweety bird kind of yellow. I think it's horrible. Originally it was a charcoal gray colour which i like much more.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Back in the Mid eighties I was into the 1st and 2nd Gens. I had a 72 RS and would beat up on the early Z28's with it. Years went by and I sold my 72 and then my 67 Camaro and I was without a performance vehicle for a long time.

I have always like the 3rd gen f-birds and my wife wanted a T/A or Formula to go cruising with the local f-body group. So I decided a 3rd gen would fit the budget and it was on from there.

Bought a formula 350 that was rough but dirt cheap. Had over $1.1K in mods and only paid $800 for it. When the motor went I sold the car and kept the SLP entire exhaust, SLP runners and the 700R4 with a shift kit. I bought my 86 T/A with a solid body and bad carb and paint. Restored the body, added the SLP exhaust and replaced the stock 700 with the one with a shift kit and cleaned a lot of the underside of the car.

It's now just a play toy and I'll hit an occasional show or the T/A nats with it.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Nice thread. I was a kid when Camaros happened - the first ones. I like them all, even the second-gen cars, which were big-bumpered when I reached high school. I noticed the third gens when they first appeared, thought they looked fantastic, and thought, "When they produce a convertible, I'm in". Then, the convertibles came out, but I was off into marriage, child-raising, and Porsches. I also picked up a pretty nice '69 RS during this stage. Fast-forward to now, well - three years ago. A decent, original '90 RS came my way, for not a lot of money, so I brought it home. I know it's not an iroc, but I love the way it looks and drives, so I'll be keeping this one, too . . .

Im 16 (had) 3 000 saved up, wanted an domestic 5 speed RWD car, and I absolutely hate the looks of mustangs... So it was a no-brainer. Picked it up last friday!

Couple bucks into the interior (Head liner, seats, and carpet) and it will be mint

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Some cool stories in here, some sound really familiar...
Anyway...
This is a long story, but its worth the read...

I was born in 1982 (yeah, in your face suckers!) and back then my mom had a 1981 Camaro Berlinetta til I was 6. That car met a dramatic end one day when I decided I didnt want to go to the baby sitters so I proceeded to shift it into D from P (from the passenger side) thus making the car roll down a hill in a crowded apartment complex which she managed, crashing into a transformer and knocking out the entire apartments electricity! Needless to say, I didnt go to the baby sitters that day and thats technically the first car I wrecked (3 total now). She ended up throwing a pool party for the residents with candles and free beer.
Fast Forward to 1988, im in second grade, its night time, and mom comes home smiling and says, I just bought a new car... so I go outside and look, BAM! A charcoal gray 1985 Z28 T-top with black trim and louvers! I was SOLD! I lived in a small town in west TX so the car was the only 3rd gen and it was popular. My buddy shane and I used to beg to take the tops off and then we would pop in her "Young MC" tape and jam "just bust a move"... That car stayed a while, til the 5th grade where it was stolen out of our driveway in North Austin off of Duval Rd. I LOVED that car! I still remember the license plate number to this day 343-JZT from hoping I would find it then. To this day, I have only seen 2 like it, EVER! One is on this board, and the other was hard top.
So... Next she bought was a white 2.8L 1985 Camaro, it wasnt as cool but I still loved it, because my older high school buddy had one (I was in the 6th grade) and we used to do burn outs in his all the time.. Sountrack then? Snoop Doggy Dogs' "Doggy Style" which I still like , I remember "John" my buddy used to pick me up from school in that thing and it got a lot of attention. ..
Next came a maroon 1991 3.1 V6 Firebird, this next part gets interesting... My mom used to date Willie Nelsons brother in law, Kenny, and we lived next to Willie in some Condos and I went to school with his son Anthony... So mom was partying, and I got the keys!! 7th grade here! With keys, OK'd by mom! Yeah! I was popular, and I even got to take Nina, this chick I liked out to dinner in it, when I was 12! I never wrecked it, ran it hard, and the 700R4 finally gave up the ghost...
Next car she got was a 1987 Type LT Camaro, another V6, it didnt stay long (longer story not my fault) but since then, I have owned 6 third gens! Couple V6, most V8s, some Firebird, Some Camaro... hard top, t-top, auto, 5 speed... Im older now, got my own family, and I am going to take the tops off my 1985 Z28, let my 3yr. old daughters pick a track and JAM out!
Long Live The Third Gen!!
Peace!

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I have to say that "Knight Rider" got me started into the third gen cars. I even had a firbird t-shirt! I loved them until... I went to watkins gle with my stepfather and saw the IROC racing series Camaro club. I saw these cars in person running around the track. I fell in love with the looks! Plus my dad was teaching me how to work on cars on his 1981 Monte Carlo. It was at that point I was hooked on the third gen Camaro and new I would own one someday. I am on my third on which you can see in my picture album. I also owned two '86 Trans Am's and one '88 Firebird Formula. I love these cars, always have and always will!

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I was 14 when I got my first car it was an 84 iroc z and I had the car for 6 years, it was my baby.. I had restored it myself almost completely before getting rid of it when I got pregnant with my first baby. I cried cause the car was my baby also, but my love for those cars never went away and now the past year I have spent searching for a car like the one I had cause getting rid of it has haunted me. My dad was a mechanic and taught me how to work on cars since I was old enough to walk so.. I have always loved old cars, and always had a special place for the 3rd gen camaros.

Um, there was no Iroc-Z till 1985! Is yours an 85 or is it a Z28?

1998. When I was 6 years old my Dad put a Third gen Iroc-z body on his street stock and I was hooked for life. And now being an old man about to turn 20 I finally had enough money to buy own... and the next chapter starts

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

yeah, apparently I should have been more specific with that one.. I know there wasn't an actual iroc z till 85. It was originally a 84 z28 and the guy i bought it from used to have a custom body shop and he used my car for a show car and he put the kit on it from an 85 and made it look like an iroc z .. so it was kinda a fake you could say but when I was a kid i didnt care all i knew was it was fast. When I bought it he had left it sitting in a field for 2 years so I did a lot of work to that car over 6 years and actually didn't check into the specifics of what it was till i was around 17 and I went to get insurance on my own and realized the vin didn't pull the same car I was told I had.. a blessing for insurance cause the rate was cheaper. So when I found that out I started doing research on camaros to find out what i really had and realized it was a custom one of a kind fake lol kinda disappointing but now I would love to get my hands on a real iroc z. sorry to not be more specific.. thanks for pointing that out.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

I first got into thirdgens, I first got into CARS, when my dad bought a Cherry 1982 Z28 (which supposedly had the 5.0H.O.) it was modded with headers, exhaust, 3.73 posi rear end, and some other stuff I don't remember. I loved that car. It smelt cool, it looked cool, it sounded awesome, it was Hot Rod Red, T-tops, and every once and a while we would take it to muscle car shows. He had to sell it just a few years later, but it's memory still last. Thats why I have a thirdgen.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

well when i turned 16 i actually wanted a 96 impala i still do theyre big powerful and nothin but fun. so i bought a 95 caprice it was an impala clone. i got it for the 900 bucks that i saved from my first job. i brought it home the next day my dad gave me hell because their was a real 96 impala ss for 1000 bucks it was mint and had 100k the only thing wrong was the front suspension had minor damage. he told me i had to get rid of my caprice and get something else i looked on craigslist for 2 straight weeks while having my car posted eventually i found this 86 iroc it was carburated and a 5 spd. i never had a carburated car so i figured i would try something new so i went to look at it and when i saw it in person i just kinda fell in love. despite its history and condition it turns out that the car was in a police impound lot in oakland for ten years and they barely put it up for auction this guy picked it up and a week later he put it on craigslist. the drivers power seat was stuck all the way back the t-tops leaked and it was only running on six cyl. i spent so much time and effort and about 4k of my money which is alot for a teenager. i sold it earlier this year and i just turned 20 i bought myself another iroc. i do like the car alot but i still miss mine and theres no way i can get it back. the guy who bought it lives in fresno i live by san fransisco.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Resurrected thread? Eh, I'll bite.

When I turned 16 I had accepted my fate that I would have to drive my dad's car to school (ok so it was a 62 Impala so I was actually kind of excited.) That thing was a huge boat, though and really wasn't fit for a new driver. I would go through the classifieds and keep my eye out for some beaten and abused Grand Am or Cavalier. I didn't request much as I felt I was lucky my parents were even entertaining the idea of maybe getting me a car. My mom caught me one day and told me I was going about it all wrong and that I didn't want any old car. I wanted a sports car of some form, like this one, she handed me an ad for an 83 Z-28.

We went in and looked at the car. It had a bad exhaust leak. It was five different colors of slopped on primer. The body panels sagged. It was a t-top car and the interior was badly sun rotted and missing window cranks and *****. And I fell in love with the car. We never bought it, but I had that body style burned into my mind. I loved it.

I went with my dad to check out a third gen Firebird shortly after. It was beautiful car, I think it may have been a Formula but I don't remember all that well now. Another father and son were looking at it ahead of us so we waited patiently. After waiting an hour or so they finally bought it and we were out of luck. Even today my dad tells me how heartbroken he was over that car. He'd decided we weren't even going to test drive it after he saw it.

Eventually my parents surprised me with a fourth gen v6. Not a fast car, but it was a really nice first car. PO had put a set of Flowmasters on it and it actually didn't sound bad, surprisingly. An idiot in the opposite lane crossing into my lane of traffic took that car off the road 6 months later.

Once all the insurance crap was taken care of we went out and bought an 83 Sport Coupe. Man, that thing was slow, but she could get up there eventually, ha ha. First time I did a hundred was in that thing. The body was solid, though, and she looked good. The paint was red and needed waxed every other day in order to not look like absolute crap, but she shined up nice. I miss that car from time to time. My dad took her when I went to college and proceeded to plow it into three different deer over time before the transmission eventually blew.

Fast forward six years and I finally bought my own third gen, my 89 Iroc. It's been some time, but I finally have my third gen Z.

i was very young it was around 89 to 90 era i was 6 years old and one of my neighbors friends had a 84 firebird. I remember seing it outside my house and thinking it looked like no other car on the street. I loved it and remember talking to the guy telling him his car rocks. Then in 1996 my school principal drove me home from school in is rare 91 firehawk. That did it for me i was hooked. I remember him flooring the car at a stoplight I was smiling from ear to ear. I think its why I drive a 91 formula.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Neat stories! Here's mine, hope you enjoy.

I remember it like it was yesterday... it was a sunny Saturday morning in 1986. I was a junior in high school and just starting to get into cars. I had an older neighbor that me and my friends always looked up to and he was into cars. That Saturday morning, a red 1985 IROC-Z shows up on a rollback tow truck. Someone had rolled it and it was in pretty bad shape; T-Top roof caved in, windshield destroyed, all body panels crumpled, front wheels at unnatural angles, nose ripped apart, hood ripped off.

Me and my friends who were outside playing kill-the-man-with-the-ball immediately ran over and looked at it! We started hammering Dave (my neighbor) with questions. What happened? Did they die? Why do you have it? etc.

Turns out it was totaled by the insurance company by a young man that was apparently not a good driver. Dave worked at the bank that financed the car. When the insurance company totaled it, he asked to buy it off them. He got it for $50!

He spent the next year repairing the car. The sounds of auto repair filled the air for a long time. We often stopped over to see the progress. That next year - 1987, he rolled the car out and fired it up.

Man, I can still hear that sound in my head! He dropped it in 1st, gunned it, and left a cloud of burnt tire behind. I was hooked!

It wasn't until 1989 when I could finally afford one, and then it was only a V6 Sport Coupe with Z28 wheels and Cragar louvers. I still loved it! After I racked up a lot of tickets and it was stolen 3 times (long story) the insurance went up to $2,500 a year so I had to sell it.

I'd always wanted to get another one but couldn't afford it for a long time. With a family to support, I couldn't justify having a 2nd car just for fun.

Now that I finally have some extra money, I bought my 1982 Berlinetta and am fixing it up.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

In 1990 when I was 22, I bought an 85 V6/auto Camaro base coupe, the first car I ever paid for. Before that I had a 68 Beetle my dad gave me. Almost exactly a year to the day I bought it, the Camaro got hit hard by a drunk driver, we fixed it and drove it a few more years but it was never the same. A few years later I had an '87 coupe w/ t-tops 305/5 speed. That one would never pass emissions so it went in favor of a 91 Mustang. I've been looking for another 3rd Gen Camaro lately as a weekend car, but everything I've looked at has been either crazy expensive or parts cars. I'm still looking...

when i was growing up, my dad had a lot of 89-90 RS's. ever since i first worked on his 86 Iroc i wanted one of my own. the first third gen i ever owned was when i was ten years old. it was an 89 RS and i traded an 86 silverado for it. dad ended up scrapping it a few month's later. then when i was 14 i bought an 87 IROC. dad ended up scrapping it also. and now i'm 17 years old. i have a 1990 RS that ain't goin anywhere, i had to sell my 79 firebird to get it.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

Lot of great stories!!

I got my 85 z28 when I was 17, i'm only 18 now. I had already had my z71 for a few years, and that is what everyone drives around my area, but I eventually got a job where I worked my butt of because I wanted to get something that was better on gas since I would need it for college. I wanted it to be a 2 door car whatever it was but as you can see the high gas mileage thing didn't work out haha.

So long story short my dad and I were driving around looking at car lots and we happen to pass one of the crappiest car lots if not the crappiest in town. There happened to be a red t-top z28 sitting up there. We went and talked to the dealer about, it was like a coincidence that it was there because they had just got it that same day. I wasn't familiar with these cars at all at first so from a distance I wasn't sure what it was. But once i laid eyes on it I fell in love with it, when I turned the key in the ignition it made it even better.

The dealer told me to come back the next day after he checked everything on the car. Knowing me I was up there first thing in the morning. I loved the look of the car and it was so unique and different from what everybody else was driving in my town. I ended up driving it off the lot that day smiling ear to ear, even though it needed some work done to it. I was still so proud of it.

This September made a year of owning the car. I have a lot of money in to restoring the exterior and interior , but I don't regret any of it. It makes someone appreciate something a lot more when they pay for it and work on it yourself. Now I get compliments from everybody when I drive around town on sunny day. I won't ever get rid of it.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

My dad had the red z24 with the digital gauges. Loved the car and always wanted him to pass it down to me but he ended up selling it when I turned like 13-14 years old for 1k to some guys passing through town....the system was worth at least $1200 at the time. He to this day regrets selling the car.

I first got into 4th gens back in 07/08' I traded my 225k mile 98 z71 for a 98 v6 camaro. I spent about 8k or so on the 98 fixing it up and loved the car. Wanted a v8 so I ended up selling it for $2,500 (could kick myself in the *** for that now) Bought a 92 rs t-5 ttop. Ended up being not a good idea and ended up selling it a month after I bought my 88 IROC-Z. Paid $3,400 for my car and I am happy with it. So in the past year and a half is when I really got into the 3rd gens and learning about them. If I have down time you can bet im on this website researching and looking at what others have done for ideas and feedback on companies.

(Still trying to get my wife to get a camaro as well)

Z24 was a Cavalier. And the digital dash Camaro was a Berlinetta, not a Z.

I barely remember the car, I do know it was a z24 though because it had the z24 interior emblem near the door handle. I found a picture just now of the emblem using google that I was talking about and a picture of the digital gauges I remember. (I was young but these are the only things I definately remember about the car other then it being red)

This was just what got me to like the style of the Camaro later in life remembering how he loved that car. But now the Cavalier looks goofy to me lol.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/823860...rolet-cavalier

and that link shows the gauges in the Cavalier for reference.

Re: When did you guys first get in to Third Gens?

3rd gens have been in the family for a long time. When I was about 5 (1996) years old my mom had a 91 Camaro Red with regular 15' wheels. She sold it to a family member and bought a Sundance. Then when my Step-dad met my mother he had a 79 T/A that he traded for a Regal. Around 11 years old my dad bought one once again from a neighbor that got caught selling drugs. It was a 87 Iroc with Dayton Spoke wheels. It was a perfect car but my dad had no intentions of keeping it and sold it for a profit to buy our 87 Cadillac. Then at 16 is when my father got my old 92 as pay for a Carpet install he did. We then purchased a 88 Formula which we sold right away and then I bought my 86.

My family has a long history with 3rd gens, I was in love with them since I was a little kid. The 92 started it for me. I still want to get a 79 T/A as a reminder to my father. I still remember that car, amazing.

I might of even gotten one of my long time friend into 3rd gens as well. I am pretty sure if I didn't start talking to him after a gaming break and showing him my 92 that he would of never looked into 3rd gens and probably not have gotten his 89 GTA.
