Can anyone tell me what this is?

Took this out of the engine bay of my 85 camaro. It had vaccum lines going to it, one line was a solid plastic line and it goes into the firewall for like the heater box or something I'm guessing.. The other line was just rubber and connected to the intake i think. Is it just some kind of regulater or something and do I even need it?

Vacuum canister/reserve, it keeps a back up of vacuum for the heater valves so if you are accelerating your heater doesn't change from blowing on your feet to defrost and back when you let off.

cool deal, thanks for the info. Anyone think its really important? Doing the ol' lt1 swap and that black box looks stupid on the firewall. Should I relocate it or pitch it?
