1992 Trans Am GTA: Body & engine just turned 230,000. The trans only seems to last 100K at a time so I'm on my 2nd rebuild as of 30K miles ago.

She had 69K original miles when I bought her 12 years ago. Wow how time flies.

Do you mean the original 200 auto trans has 276,089 miles on it and has never been rebuilt?? If so thats a worlds record. I heard those transmissions were notoriously weak and gave out at 40k miles.most were replaced with th350s.

I am currently at 162500 miles but the entire engine, suspension, and steering was redone along with subframe connectors, wonder bar, etc. done at the same time. Interior is near mint and paint is perfect so now with the exception of a couple rattles that I am correcting, the car is brand new again and makes an awesome daily driver and show and go.

What does it cost to have one of these 700r4's rebuilt? isnt there a way to build them so they will last longer than that?

Have you had any experience with one of those HD rebuilds? would you be able to get 200k on one of those if you drove it "normally"?

I've had great luck with the TH400's used in the earlier second gen Firebirds as well as the TH350's,those are great transmissions and seem to last forever.

I've had several 83 Third Gens where the transmissions gave out at around 140k,but I've heard GM improved the design around 87 or 88 making them more reliable.

'84 T/A, nearly 239K, hasn't moved under it's own power since I pulled the original LG4, which was literally full of water after sitting for 12 years. Bores were too rusty do determine wear, but the stamped code on the RF deck matched the car's VIN.

I actually had a local guy redo mine about 4 years ago for $900... He beefed it up and everything for that price...

We should keep in mind that not all 700R4's are equal. Depending on what engine came with the car would determine the exact trans and the 350's would have stronger components than say a LG4.

Not sure if helpful or sarcasm. Giving you the benefit of the doubt: Thanks! Do you look into the sub-forum for Engine Swaps very often? Since I got it about 5 years ago now, this engine bay has held ALL of the following engines, in no particular order: LG4, 350, 454, LQ4, LM7, 427 tall deck, Chevy 4.3L gasoline V6, and now a 6.2L diesel. Coming soon: Olds 4.3L diesel V6.

Lb9 700r4 2.73 g80. Only mods are 3in catback and cat air foil initial timing at 10deg. Cruised at a steady 72mph with a/c on 3 of us in the car and about 200lb of luggage or so haha.

86 trans am 135,xxx on the body ( at least thats what the odo says, title is exempt) way less on the engine and not a single piece of rust anywhere. Well maybe a little on the headers.

I got my yellow 89 Formula (305 and 700R4) at 310,000KM in Januray 2008, drove it to 378,000KM in August 2010 when i deceded that a 91 GTA Trans AM was worth keeping over a rust bucket.
I got my 91 GTA (305 and 700R4) at 202,000 in June 2010 and today it has 223,000KM (and few miles on the drag strip too )

1985 T/A,odo reads 86,677,had 150 less 3 days ago before I registered it for the first time since 2000,not sure if it's been rolled over but the original,mint,dash pad,door handles and no sag door pins,makes me think it may be original.
