1987 IROC sells for $42,900
Did you guys see this recent eBay auction? A dark red metallic 1987 IROC-Z 350, with fabric interior and black undercoating! The doors have been modified with aftermarket speakers. This car doesn't have TTops, Bose, rear hatch cover (D42), leather, etc. Looks like I may need to reconsider my starting price when I list my car.

Their website still lists the car in their inventory:

You keep talking about raising the price but you still haven't sold it for your previous pricing!!

They have it listed on their website as Sold and also in their current inventory. Hmmm. I wonder what games their trying to play. Are they trying to manipulate the market for future sales?
Regarding selling mine, I have to list it to sell it! I just haven't done it yet. I have the '82 actively listed and I have someone coming to see it tomorrow. I'll do something with the IROC-Z later.

underside is all undercoated shiny black... doesn’t have original tires and looks like the shocks were replaced
No TPI decal on the rocker is weird
Very nice, Very clean car... but no way it’s a $42,900 example
There was one they were selling for this price with a Flowmaster muffler on it... not sure if it’s this one...
They had 3 different cars with different mileage and condition all listed for this price. Years ago their going price for all their IROCs was $36,900
they are always pushing the prices higher, but I doubt they are getting that.
I know a guy who offered a dealer $10k under asking price for a car and they did it for $9k under.
Those cars would probably be in the high, mid twenties on BAT IMO
Also, yes, I think Scott’s car is nicer than this one
Vanguard does clean up and present the vehicles better than anyone though.

But did it actual sell? Or another eBay game? It shows it was relisted then closed on the 26th.

No way this car is selling for that money. Maybe this is just how they weed out the riff raff to get the highest possible offers. Must be a method to the madness.

They’ve had cars they marked as sold before that showed up a year later for sale again same ad, same mileage and higher price.

There's a sucker born every minute, but this is just a little too hard to believe. Nice car, but not $42K of nice. Not even close.
eBay is unreliable as to final purchase prices. But I have noticed a general uptick in Firebird prices. Of course, that's asking pricing. But the initial ask seems to have had a significant increase over the past year.

used car dealers say they’re paying practically low retail prices to get inventory and have very slim margins to price cars where customers will not balk.
In the beginning of the pandemic people thought it would go the other way where people would be selling off their toys to pay their bills.
It’s good for any special interest vehicle the way this played out for sure.

For a lot of thirdgen people, a hardtop is not a bug, but a feature.

Seller claimed elsewhere online, car is going to buyer in California.
No comment on condition or value/sales price. Just reporting what I saw. So perhaps it sold.

I agree in that Vanguard does a fantastic job cleaning up cars for their videos, especially the undercarriage. Also, it looks like they use some type of soft lens for their camera rig; the images look incredibly warm and smooth, yet highly detailed.

I've never understood why everyone wants T-tops, but whatever. I like hardtops, and don't see the value in having the sun beating down on my head, the wind messing up my hair, and the rain and car-washes leaking in; making the carpet smell musty and rotting the floorpan. Seems like more of a '70s fashion statement than anything practical...
