Car doesn't have all HVAC dash vents
OK something that has been bothering me for a while. My 85 IROC came with factory A/C ( I checked the RPO's) and the car only has the defroster vents, floor vents, and the center vents in the dash. The passenger and drivers side vents are still blocked off (factory). When my A/C is running I can feel the plastic of the dash over the vents is cold, so the ductwork is there, but no vents. Anyone elses car like this?
I don't think the dash has been replaced, and if it was they did a really good job.

The vent deletes were for 1LE cars
You can unbolt them and install standard vents if you like
The dash will have to come out unless you are incredibly good at getting into hard to reach places
Side note, you can resell the delete covers for a good bit more than normal vents

On the Camaro cars the AC delete caused a different type of dash housing to be installed. Unlike the Firebirds,..... there is no "delete plate" on each side of the dash housing. On the Camaros the delete plates are PART of the housing and can't be removed. & The Firebird AC delete plates are not screwed in - they have simply plastic tabs that hold them in plce.
IROCmonkey - If your car has no vents on the far left and far right sides and your RPO shows it's an AC car than the previous owner must have installed an AC delete dash housing. He may or may not have placed the original A/C air box on the non-AC housing - but it's unlikey. Just remove your dash pad to check if the air box connects to the side vent areas to be sure.

Re: Car doesn't have all HVAC dash vents
Yeah the A/C housing and duct work is there. The dash surface gets ice cold right where the vents are supposed to be.
Its interesting that the dash may have been replaced, as it has all the correct options and badging.
Its an 85 so it is definately not a 1LE.
Is it possible this is a factory screw up?

They're not for 1LE cars, they're for any car that didn't have A/C from the factory.
