When I bought my 91, there was a deck lid with speakers behind the rear end... Any clue what this piece is actually called?? Did these come stock in the 91-92 birds/maros?? Is it worth keeping around?? I'm thinking of getting rid of it because I have no real use for it... If this is a special piece to the car i'll keep it around, anyone have any info on these???

According to the White Book, RPO D27 (Cover, locking rear storage) was available from 84-89. My "guess" is that yours is an add-on.

Are they Bose speakers? It sounds if your car may have come with the factory Bose system. Those came with speakers installed in the rear cargo door. They also came with speakers in the front lower kick panels so if you've got speakers in both of those places your car probably came with the factory Bose option.
Again according to the White Book, there were only 103 RPO UU8 (Radio, stereo, Delco Bose, clock, seek/scan) produced in 91, so if your car does have that option, it'd be rare for that year.
This from 87, which I believe is the first year the Delco Bose was available: RPO D27 (locking storage cover) was included with LT; required RPO's B48 [Luggage Compartment Trim, deluxe] and UU8 [above] with Z28; not available with convertible.

My 92z has a rear deck lick which houses bose speakers. I have bose gold stereo with cassette. If you decide to remove, hang on to it. Not many cars came with them.
Cool Collegeville. I did site engineering for McD's on High St in Pottstown. Nice paint job btw.
could however be one of those speaker housings that were available from jc whitney for like $30 that fit in the rear hatch and matched the carpet colors too.

I've never removed the kick panels to see, but i'll def. check it out... Something strange though, when I bought the car, the PO had a pair of "6 1\2's drilled into the floor and kick panels... Why?? IDK maybe he was just a lil ... When it comes to the speakers that are in it; they seem to be some type of after market Sony's... Even though i'd have no use for it, I wish the PO would've given me the original head-unit... Mainly so I could just look at it and see if it's bose... haha

... That has to be one of the nicest McD's i've ever seen!! haha...
I've already removed it to make room for my subs and amp years ago... It's just sitting in my basement, safe and tucked away...
So I was on compnine's vin id website and found this RPO interesting...
RPO Code U79 - "SPEAKER SYSTEM,4,DUAL FRONT COAX,DUAL EXTENDED RANGE PACKAGE SHELF 4 SPKR SYS(U79)"
I think i'm reading this wrong... Does this mean I have 4 speakers up front and 4 out back?? Or is it 4 speakers total?? I appologize for the stupidity in advance but i'm completely lost... haha
