Re: Steering wheel question

If you have a 92 RS then yes you do have an air bag, as long as the stock steering wheel is still in place. Does your wheel look like this?

Re: Steering wheel question

Yes it can. Unhook the positive battery cable or pull the airbag fuse. There are four torx bolts on the back of the wheel that once removed will allow the airbag to come out. Then remove the center nut for the wheel, and use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. Installation of the new wheel is pretty self explanatory as long as you can follow directions.

However once you remove the airbag the computer will be looking for it and the warning light will stay on until you fool the computer into not looking for it. Whether you pull the bulb or something else creative it will always be on. This is one of the reasons I don't have any f-bodies after 90 lol!

Re: Steering wheel question

Depending on where you live and how you have it registered keep in mind that pulling the air bag and replacing it with non air bag wheels might fail inspection. Also call insurance company and see if they are cool with it as well. It's possible to be in an accident that is 100 percent NOT your fault and due to not having the airbag and not making it known have your insurance denied and it all get dumped on you anyhow.

They justify this by saying that you illegally modified your vehicle in a way that made it unsafe and not inspection passing, so you caused whatever happened just by driving the illegal vehicle and the accident would not have happened if you had not been on the street.

It's rare but something to think about. People do it all the time anyways and have no problems, but it's a risk that needs to factor into your decision.

Re: Steering wheel question

Also when you go to pull the bag, disconnect the battery and wait about 15 minutes for the static to dissipate from the system so you don't get a bag in the face.
