I created this harness while making this tech thread, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...e-4th-gen.html

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
I would like to buy the direct fit harness for 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen. Will this work with Racetronix hot wire kit if so which one do I need?

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
Your first post (also your first post at this forum) seemed to be worded unnatural, that's why I tested you.
This is not a Hotwire harness. This is a basic harness to get the fuel pump and fuel gauge working with a 99-02 4th gen plastic fuel tank. It replaces the harness sub-section at fuel tank with all the right kind of connectors to interface with your car.
A Hotwire harness is the next level up and is used with fuel pumps that draw higher current. It is a more complex task that requires you to lay new circuits (front to back) in the vehicle for fuel pump. There is no Hotwire harness with the right kind of connectors and wiring for our cars with a 4th gen fuel tank. The closest thing you can buy is a Hotwire harness for '99-'02 LS1 F-body, and then rework it to interface with the car. I have the parts needed to do that and can put together a kit so you can rework and simplify your own Hotwire harness, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/lsx-...-kits-4th.html

This is what I tried. I had a racetronix fuel pump and couldn't get fuel to pump.

Is the hotwire kit you make easy to splice in to the racetronix

This is the pump I used to start the 5.3 on stand. When I finally put tank in car I couldn't get it to pump fuel. I took it out and I guess the fuel went bad and messed pump up so I tossed it. Can you tell me best fuel lines to get or just use my stock hard lines up to engine bay then AN from there

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
I might just buy both the one in this post and the one for hotwire kit. I have a factory pump I got on ebay with the regulator built in. I'm doing 243 heads,lt headers, true duals with 3"stainless works chambered mufflers,ls1 or ls6 intake and a lil bit bigger injectors. Is the stock pump enough to handle that or do I need to buy another racetronix fuel pump. How do you accept payment. And do I need to send the messages this way or another

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
Can you show me a picture of the external connector on fuel tank for the fuel pump?
You can see rework instructions in post #3 and decide for yourself if you want to try, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...e-4th-gen.html
Don't forget that you'll also need to change the fuel level sender to 0-90 Ohm, also explained in that same thread.

Honestly, you don't need both. I just need to see the photo of your fuel pump bulkhead to know what you've really got going on there.

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
Perfect, yes, this harness will plug in. You'll throw away the old harness from the fuel tank. I don't know how much horsepower it will support but it will run the pump. Stock wiring is enough for a stock fuel pump.
You can do a Hotwire harness but it's kind of pointless without upgrading to the larger 255 L/hr pump.

What are the benefits in having a fourth gen fuel tank over the third gen one? Weight? Sorry inherited my dads 3rd gen and slowly working on it?

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
* Looking to buy a used tank and rather buy one that's 15 years newer.
* Rather have a plastic tank that doesn't rust.
* Doing an LS swap and would like to have the fuel tank (with pump and regulator) meant for that engine.
* Want the charcoal canister out of the engine bay so getting a 4th gen tank that has the charcoal canister integral to it.
* The 4th gen fuel pump sits in a bucket full of fuel no matter what the fuel level in the tank .

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
Yes, I have a couple spares in my stash and could build it that way if you want.
What fuel pump do you have? Those newer GT280 connectors have higher current ratings than stock Metri-Pack connector, and are usually paired with bigger fuel pumps. Just want to make sure we've got enough wire to support your pump since we're running it off stock wiring.

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
The new connector came with my fuel sender. The instructions told me to replace the connector b/c the other ones are prone to catching on fire. I have a factory-rated fuel pump at the moment but I have thought about getting the hot wire kit and a larger pump. However, it seems like a change direction with this car way too much and I just keep dumping money on the sucker. . I have a brand new Delphi pump but I don't have a new internal sock. They've been out of stock forever!

I'll be interested in one of these. I just don't visit these boards as much as I used to. I'm doing the 4th gen tank swap and picked up the racetronix kit for the Whalboro 255lph pump and am using the Herco kit for the float to work with the gauge.

Yeah, actually I do, it's the same one shown in picture in post #1. That one is made up already, and I have 1 more of those connectors and then I'm all out.

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
I am assuming the aftermarket connector is for the larger pumps? I am just starting to think about a swap. That and my aftermarket tank (OEM replacement ) pukes fuel when taking a brisk corner…
I’m in Canada so I’m assuming you need shipping details (PM you the details?)
thanks, I’m already having a hell of a time locating a 4th floor plastic tank…

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
Yes, you typically see it with larger pumps. But now these days it seems that the replacement buckets more frequently come with that aftermarket style connector too, so if for some reason you end up replacing the pump bucket assembly, then there is a chance it will show up with the aftermarket style connector on it.
It's kind of an unknown until you have a fuel tank and know what you need. Although I see Racetronix has adapters that will go either way if you end up changing paths (that kind of defeats the purpose of my nice harness made to fit proper though).

- Adapt my harness with stock connector to an aftermarket connector on fuel tank,

Hey, folks. I have run out of extra supplies from my projects to make these harnesses. I have 1 of each thing left and that's it, there will be no more.

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
Ok so dumb question. I understand the newer or aftermarket connector is for the newer sender/pump bucket assembly but why would I need to replace that? Like, how do I know if the bucket/whole assembly needs to be replaced to the newer style connector?

Re: Direct-fit harness 4th gen fuel tank into 3rd gen
There is no need to replace the stock connector unless you install a larger fuel pump, such as a 340 Liter/hour, with a current draw higher than what the connector is rated to carry.
The fuel bucket becomes brittle with time, so sometimes it will break when people mess with it, forcing them to purchase a new bucket assembly.
