Swap Kit Question

I have a 5.7 LS1 out of a 2001 Trans Am that I am going to put in my 91 z28. Is there a swap kit that or does the 5.7 fit in w/o a kit or modification? Most the ones I see say 5.3 or 6.0.

Re: Swap Kit Question

Same motor, different bore dia. (as far as fitment) It's just WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY eeeeeezier cheeeeeeeeeper and more common to use the truck motors; there's like 50 times as many of em in the world to begin with, and the last year of the LS1 (5.7) was, what, 2002 or some such? whereas those others, and various other truck sizes, have continued in production FAR longer.

So yeah, as far as fitment, if it fits a 5.3 or 6.0, it'll fit a 5.7. OTOH the truck motors have intakes and accessories that don't fit in our cars as-is, so it's not impossible that there might be extras in them that a 5.7 won't need.

Most of the "kits" take a truck take-out engine and give you the car parts to fit the engine in your car. If you are starting with a car engine (which the 5.7 is), you don't need most of what is in those "kits".

Read the swap sticky ( https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...third-gen.html ) in the top section of this forum. The parts are available. Mostly you have to decide how you want to go about it.

Re: Swap Kit Question

My swap was an LS1 from an 02 Trans Am. I used the hawks engine mounts and trans mount. Bolted right up.
