Talk about a great restoration story, both your car and your neck. Glad to see both are coming along nicely. Keep up the good work.

Hey Dagwood, Glad you caught the cancer in the bud. I have been following this thread. Great job on the car.
Good luck with the car and the surgery.

I still have a little sanding and buffing to do, but it is coming along really fast! I'm anxious to get all the interior in it!

Looking good! Cool summer night, top down, tunes blaring, wind in hair, oh yeah. I'm getting the sensation.

Spent about 5 hours sanding and buffing today. Granted, its filthy with buffing compound all over it, but you get the picture of what the finish looks like.....

Thanks man!
Yeah my neck is doing pretty good. I've sure been getting a lot done lately, so it's been great feeling better after surgery and staying busy!

Re: 1991 Trans Am convertible project for my Dad
Today I got all the rear spoiler parts installed (they were just sitting on the car in previous pics), I got all of the headlight stuff put together and lined up, got the hood, nose, and fenders lined up, door gfx back on, lock cylinders painted and installed, for handles painted, and fuel door parts installed. Got a lot done considering I worked a full day on top of working on this lol.
There's a car show on Sunday so I'm trying like hell to get it done by the weekend!

Re: 1991 Trans Am convertible project for my Dad
Hey man, its awesome! Need some pointers please. So I am wet sanding my doors and some parts. I have sanded through a tad on the edges on a mirror and door. I can just clean them and shoot the paint over that area then blend/sand yes? Its a 3 and 1 Eastwood black, so the clear and top coat are all in one.
Also, 2 more things:
1. for the body side molding, how did you know where it mounts on the door and how did you get it straight? I have new ones from Hawks
2. The sticker emblems, like the bird on the nose, and the Forumula on the bumper. At what point did you put them on, after the wet sand or did you buff out the car and then install? If the latter, do I have to clean off any of the wax used to buff the car before I stick on the emblems?
thanks!

With a single stage paint, I'm not going to be much help for ya. I think you can blend in and sand and buff, but im not 100% sure. If you try it that way, I would spray the blend with a dust of reducer right after you spray the paint to get it to melt in. I have almost zero experience with single stage.....sorry!!
As for the side moldings, I installed the fender and rear quarter pieces first, lining them up dead center with the body line. Then I ran a piece of masking tape between them in a straight line, but lining it up right underneath the two small pieces. Then I installed the door molding right above my masking tape line. Now, here's the trick. On the two sided tape, I only removed about the first 6 inches of the plastic film to expose the sticky part of the tape, and left the removed part dangling on the bottom side of the molding. Then I stuck on those first 6 inches, removed another 6 inches of the protective plastic and stuck down the 2nd 6 inches, and repeated that process until i had the entire molding on. Then you can keep it right on your mark without any trouble at all. These are actually the factory moldings. People on here say how they are so difficult to reinstall, but when you know how to do it, it is actually stupidly easy. If you pulled off the entire length of the protective plastic film you would NEVER keep it straight, even with a tape line as a reference. Do it 6 inches at a time and you're golden.
I installed all of the decals AFTER everything was sanded and buffed. I wipe everything down afterwards with a Wizard's Mist And Shine. Then I use RIGHT ON for the decal application. It's a spray on product that you spray on the place you're applying the decal to, and I also spray it right on the sticky side of the decal. Put the decal on, use a squeegee to remove all air bubbles, remove the sticky paper transfer tape, and wipe it clean. Perfection, every single time.

Re: 1991 Trans Am convertible project for my Dad
Dagwood, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFO! Very very helpful indeed. As for the single stage paint sand through. I called Eastwood tech support. They said to rough up the area and mask it off. Then repaint. Let dry and wet sand, cut and buff. Should be fine. So I am good to go!!

The interior is in! I just need to find a cup holder for the drivers door panel. I will get it outside for some pics later on today. Heres the interior......

Re: 1991 Trans Am convertible project for my Dad
Thanks! My daughter is on her way over to pick up the car and she's driving the Trans Am and I'm taking my IROC to a car show. So it should be a great time!
Got em out and ready to go!
