Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Steveo, its funny you say that. I grew up there in Northern VA. My Grandparents both lived in Springfield and Fairfax. In fact, my dad Lives over off of 236 in i think the hood is called Kings Grant.. I cnat remember the name of the developement now.. and my grandma lives off of braddock road there right near the shopping center and beltway.. gosh i cant remmber the name of the shopping center... its right near accotink lake. anywyas, its my old stomping ground, and i was up there last September when my grand dad passed.. miss it sometimes, but way too many folks and too high priced for me, Im definately a south carolina boy now.

Come on down! we dont have emissions!!

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Wow accotink is 10 minute walk. I work 5 minutes from the actual park. My gf lives off braddock...ya pretty much everywere you mentioned it right around me.

No emissions...well ive cheated it here but ya id love to be able to drive around somewhere and not turn off everytime a cop gets behind me or coast in neutral or ya lots of reasons why id love to just go out for a nice "cruise" and not get stuck in traffic or get haggled by cops. My car, me and my personality just dont fit here. its very high stress area and everyone gets sucked into the "hurry up" mode of living. Id love to just slow down. No one speaks english anymore either and that doesnt help. Ive been here the past 20 years of life and im ready to go .

Well see how it goes in the next couple years and what path i decide to take with my life, the gf also has to finish up school here(she wants to go to SC as much as i do) so ya well see how it plays out .

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Yea, man, thats all my old stompin ground. Its odd how much of it comes back to me when i go back up there. but while im down here i forget most of it. I remembered the name of that plaza.. it was Ravenworth plaza.. god those were the days. I went to Kings Glenn Elementry school back in the day up there.. god that was so long ago.

Cops here are a pain, but not that bad.. emissions arent a problem, and while i have been pulled for my car being too loud, they just wanted to know all that i had done to her! Traffic in Columbia is bad, but compared to up there, its non-existant. 15 min outside the city, and your in rural areas. 2 lane roads, the way up there was 30 years ago. **** I remember when Braddock Road was 2 lanes. now its like 6 EACH WAY. I know exactly what you mean bout the hurry up mode of living. When i was up there i was astounded at how much had changed and "progressed" Houses in my grandma's neighborhood being sold for half a million dollars, then knocked down just to build a mansion on the lot. Crazy ****.. Down here its a hell of a lot slower. Hell of a lot less stress driven. We still have some issues with English down here. Southern is a language all in its own.. You have to distinguish between the I reckon's over yonder's and Y'alls with the mix of Mexican illegal immigrants too.. Se habla ENGLISH.

Where in SC were you thinking? center of state? Augusta area(masters is there) beach? Myrlte is the place, hard rock cafe, Planet hollywood, etc, or Classic old country Charleston is the tone! I love it down here, and have vowed to never live anywhere again that Spanish moss doesnt grow on the trees.

Dont get me wrong though man, alot down here is still backwards.. For instance, we cant buy alcohol on sundays at all. In fact, not until 7am on monday.. so its banned from 12am sunday night, till 7am monday morning.. however you can go to a bar and drink, just cant get it at a grocery store, or a liquor store. Liquor stores close promptly at 7pm. Cannot buy anything but food or "neccessitys" on sundays until after 130 pm in my county either. Its called "blue laws" something or another to do with the fact we're in the bible belt. who knows.. ill try to find some photos around here of random places to show off some of the areas. alot of it is really beautiful.

Wow, thats kinda cute! Well the old fashioned aspect, but I had no idea that it was still like that in sc. I think a girl like me could get in some trouble out in a place like that. The cost of living out here is outragous a starter home in the ghetto is runnin low 7's, but prices have come down due to burst in the housing bubble. I would move out there just to hear that southern twang, its sooooo adorable! are there lots of third gens out that way or just a handfull?

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Lol. Yea. some things here are very old fashioned. Other things though are just like anywhere else.

Sounds like you and me would get along fine.. i tend to get in trouble myself. here an average house can be had for 100-200 k, and thats pretty dang good.. I consider average, most here consider killer.

Come on down! theres always room out here for more! Theres alot of thirdgens, tons even, unfortunately, not many are in great shape. of course you do tend to run across some nice ones every so often too.. but not as often as i'd like. We do have the benifit of being 3 hours away from Year one's place in atlanta, 1.5 hours from Hawks, and 1.5 hours away from the beach and mountains. so all is good that way too.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

I dropped the black rim/ chrome lip idea and thinking about the chromed out 18" Irocs. Might have to go with 17" because of the way I drive. I had to replace way to many tires on my caddy (bubbles). I just replaced the radiator yesterday but now running much cooler!

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

I agree, those will look real nice on the drop top. Yeah it was pretty pimp. I had a 99 Deville, had limo tint, rollin on daytons (spelling?) and a bangin system. I got so many compliments when I was on the road. I was in a few local shows. I also rolled in a nice Yukon that was also pimped but I am having a ball with pimpin my third gen out (more than the others).

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

lolz. i hear you. the Yukon / Tahoe is probalby my next new vehicle. I need something to pull the 67 to the body shop and what not. all in time though. Thirdgens are something arent they? I absolutely love mine. Just wish i had lots more free $ to sink into them.

I really think the foose wheels will set it off. I havent seen one with them on it yet, so i think itll be real sexy.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Have you used tirerack.com? It will show you what it looks like on the vehicle and you can also pick the color of the vehicle that you want to see it on. I cant wait to see the rims on your girl.
I will have my rims by the end of the month if I didnt blow my head gasket, I keep over heating . Talk about rebuilding a car...think of all the shoes I could have bought with the money I have spent in the last month ha ha ha.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Yes, unfortunatley tire rack fails offer that wheel for a thirdgen, so it wont let me see how it looks. Im actually thinking of selling her now, as ive got almost too many cars.

Yea, thirdgens unfortunatley usually have lived an abused life, which means alot of repair / replacement for us that get them and try to make them better once we get them. Cant wait to see the photos.. thats for sure.

No, dont get rid of it! I love your drop top, I love all of them. You have a 67? They are so cute and short, I couldnt afford one out here. The shell alone runs 10 Gs and I would never be able to find parts like I do for my third gen. But would certainly love to have one.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

its a tough decision.. but who knows what will happen. we'll see.

Yea, I picked up my 67 last year for 1500 bucks. it needs full resto, but other than that, not too shabby. It runs and drives.. even though it does so not entirely well. The cars parts are surprisingly easy to find and relatively cheap.. some stuff much cheaper than what we have for our 3rd gens.

Hey Steve, remember back when I started on this board? I just noticed your car domain link. I didnt realized exactly how much has been put into purple haze alone! "Wow" is all that I can say. All of my ideas are already on her right down to the small gauge pods. I believe that I am the female version of you! ha ha lol

BTW

Yep I remember. it wasnt that long ago! Lol. Yea. there is a good bit done to the ol girl. I havent updated the cardomain in forever it seems. Ever since they started blocking it from work at least. hehe. I dont know if the world is big enough for a female version of me too!! Perhaps its best we're on the opposite side of the continent! just kidding..

Im sure that whatever direction you go with your girl it will be a good one. I cant wait to see the photos of her as is, in progress, and finished.

The only way ill sell the droptop is if i were to upgrade. that's the only hint ill give you.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

There is one before picture and a up close of the touch screen stereo head unit. I have a new dash pad, upper console, carpet, radio trim plate and head liner (not including under the hood ).
I have been doing stuff since I got it a few months ago but it just doesnt seem like I have put a dent in it yet. unfortunately I am learning that I got the worst year for a RS. I should have got a Z.

wait a minuet.........upgrade??? ...... as in fifth gen???

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

that is cool. 90's are cool cause they have the older ground effects, with the newer dash.. lower console carpeted or no? i know Hawks probably has one, and if they dont there's a shop near me called Brocks Camaro and Firebird, they may have it.

Well needs on the droptop are minor other than the top. The top needs replaced. There's some sanding and buffing to be done on the passenger side... and there back bumper cover needs replaced, which i have a replacement already, and theres some hail damage to the rear trunk deck which was there wehn i bought the car.. so it isnt that bad.. as far as wants.. well thats a different story.

I want to do an LSx swap in it, either ls1 ls2 or ls6 built. keep it an automatic of course but keep the old 3rdgen dash too. then i want new rear end, full suspension rebuild, with Spohn stuff, and then from there, also repaint it from top to bottom, as black as it can go, and put probably purple pearl ghost heritage stripes down it.. and a 91 z28 hood(which i have already) also wouldnt mind putting the interior to leather instead of 4th gen cloth, and new carpet, and a killer stereo / system. did i mention the rims i want too ?

i figure a good 10 grand itll be approching something where i want it to be.. which is cool with me.. I dont mind putting the money into it, its just gonna be a longer process than if i were to upgrade.. oh well.

10 grand for the LS swap? If you include the exhaust you will need, wiring, ECM, programming, etc., etc., etc.....My buddy has well over 10 grand in his LS1 swap. 3rd gen LS headers rung almost a grand alone. His custom exhaust ran a grand, just from the headers back! Call it 2 grand, for the complete exhaust. Granted, he spent too much on the exhaust, but...You can see how it ads up.

Not saying it can't be done...but that's cutting it close.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Trust me i know. I have researched it thorougly. The 10 grand was just for the body work. like i said, just to get me somewher i want it to be, motor and **** would of course be much more.. but i'd do all the work myself, and can probably get the donor car from my buddy for 2k. it'll be a lot of work, and im going to be extra meticulus with the droptop,so we'll see. its a long range plan, but itll work one day!

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Speaking of dumping money into an old car, I have had a few nightmares about it geting trashed, stolen and stripped down to the shell (lol), just because I put lots of time and money into it, so how are insurance companies about insuring ALL of what I have put into it not just blue book it and scrap it. Right now my stereo is covered but what about the rest?

Buy a running donor LS1 car, get what you want, part out the rest, then sell the remainder for scrap.

Right now my stereo is covered but what about the rest?
Insure for "Declared Value". Regardless of the car, they insure it for a price, say $50,000, and you pay the rate or a $50,000 car.

well it depends on the company really. in 3 years that car is considered an antique. Try Haggertys or double check with your company.. most companys will do special riders, youll pay more, of course, but it may be worth it.

Re: South Carolina Night Shots

Just buy a set of 4th gen leather seats. Here's my buddies, that he has been trying to sell. People keep asking, but no replies after that, nobody even comes to look at them, nothing! And he's only asking $400!
