Ohio Emissions (E-Check)
I know not everyone in OH has emissions to comply with. I'm talking about the E-Check that must be done every other year depending on if you own an odd or even year vehicle. Lorain and Cuyahaga county both have e-checks.
If you have them, you know they were made free a few years ago because the Sin Tax now pays for them, so you no longer have to pay that $20 fee.
But I heard a new rumor and I was wondering if anyone else had heard this.
I've had more than one person tell me that the only reason we still have e-checks is because the state of OH has a contract with the company that does the emission testing, and until that contract is up they cannot do away with them. But after the contract has expired, they do not intend to renew, and there will be no e-checks.
Has anyone else heard this?
I never understood the point. It seems to me that with manufacturers having stiffer and stiffer emissions regulations, that it is the older cars that would put out more emissions, and yet cars over the 25 year mark are exempt.
I can run whatever setup I want in my '76 Chevelle, and unless some inspector pops the hood (which will NEVER happen, since I don't have e-checks because of the 25 year exemption) I will never get in trouble and I can put out as much emissions as I like. (not saying I'm trying to pollute, just illustrating my point).
Seems like if they really wanted to make for better emissions, then mfr. should be responsible for testing and replacing faulty emissions equipment, since they are the ones designing it in the first place and the law requires working emissions.

Down around here they have been gone for a while. Seems pointless, just one more way for the bastards to bleed you.
